Title: HM341's on a k1
Post by: Green1 on July 29, 2012, 08:14:55 PM
Hi all
I decided to run down to David silvers Saturday and buy reproduction k2 pipes for my k1.I can highly recommend them as they look identical the chrome is pukka :) and they fit like a glove :D.If I remove the diffusers they sound almost as good as the HM300's.I have herd of some people drilling out the baffles so you don't have to re jet.Has anyone done this?
Cheers
Mick

Surely from Essex, you go "up" to David Silvers??

Seriously, I never knew they had a retail desk? My mother-in-law lives in Woodbridge and I've often wondered whilst wandering around Southwold or Leiston that maybe I could dump the family on the beach and go for an interesting peruse around DSS...

HA funny Steve ;D
I never knew they were in Leiston and I have been working just yards away. It's not what you expect!Unfortunately I didn't have time to look around.
Just got to MOT and register the bike now

Why did you buy HM341's for a K1? Are the 300's no longer available?

mmmm! I know DS are selling a pattern HM341 exhaust as well as the Honda HM341. But why buy these Rather than HM300's?  Anyhow from experience of both exhausts the bike will run, you may need to re-jet for a better performance. But as for removing the baffles from the HM341 you would need to drill out the 5No baffles...follow the 5No spot welds on the outside of the exhaust for there location...long metal hole cutter required...???

Good luck

Alan

You can't get get HM300's from David Silvers any more and they only have three genuine HM341's left. They are trying to find someone to make pattern 300's.I emailed some dealers in america and they are running low a full set of pipes imported to the UK comes to $4000  :o.I'm sure I read somewhere that you just drill half a dozen 15mm holes in the end of the baffles and cut the back off the diffusers to make the hole bigger.

DS have just launched a re-manufactured set of 341s.

http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,4416.0.html

They can't be out of stock already.

I can get trade prices (usually about 10% off)

The re-manufactured pipes are what I bought they have seven sets in stock at the moment. It's just the genuine pipes you can't get any more.

Your bike can be adjusted to suit the HM341 pipes, ok they will not sound as  the HM300's as they where a straight through pipe with a removable baffle, you would still need to remove the 5 No
spot welded internal baffles to produce a similar HM300.

If you can get hold of My CB750 book by Mark Paris he explains then modifications on page IV-8 very clearly...jet size, carb clip height, exhaust baffle changes.

Hi BigAl
Just seen the price  of the book :o I have bought new 105jets already so I think I will see how it runs and go from there.
Does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure a bike on just the VIN number?

Most insurance companies will do the vin number but only for one month then they want a reg or you loose your premium so make sure it will pass MOT and you have time to do the registration bumf before you arrange insurance, in fact might even be worth trailering to MOT

K1's go for good money now. Mine is insured for £7.5K and agreed by Carole Nash.
Yours looks pretty tidy from what can be seen, so go for something extravagant. They will probably want 4 photographs of the bike. one from each angle.

Wish you well

Seamus

Can you take a couple of pics inside DSS please? If there is anything worth picturing.

i run a 1970 CB750k0 with a set of 341 exhausts ,(first set i ever bought £60 each lol the good old days)they are not as loud as the 300 pipes and because i still use the 4into1 cable carbs with 120 main jets, they do tend to run a bit rich around town when pottering about,i will try smaller jets one day,but it ain't that much of a problem really,to be honest i would not drill out the exhausts,my 300 pipes are really noisey and after a long ride my head is ringing  ;)

Bugger lost my camera so no pics  >:((I don't think I will drill out the baffles just want to ride it now,I will probably just change the jets.If I want to ride a noise bike I,v still got the pegaso nice big thumper that leaves your head ringing(oh no I haven't its Italian never works)Could someone please post a pic of the side stand up as mine touches the pipes this can't be right

Dunno if I'm the only one, but I'm beginning to wonder how many different shape side stands there were through the early K series.

I have a similar issue to Green - when folded up, my K2 side stand sits just short of touching the 341's.  Although I've got a rubber stopper fitted, the stand is nowhere near touching it; it looks to be about half an inch or so short, and to confuse matters further, has an outward bend on it.  Consequently, it gives the bike a very strange lean angle (50-ish degrees), which has always struck me as kinda scary.

Am I right in thinking the K2 stands should essentially be straight - and tubular?

@chauffeur  i would say that your sidestand is bent lol, it should be exactly like the one bitsa posted ,although they do wear a bit on the bolt hole, they should never be over as far as 50 degrees. take it off and bang it flat
