When looking for insurance there is often a question about security devices. This seems to mean locks, alarms or immobilisers.
What do people on here use eg to lock up their bike(s) while out and about or in the garage?

Out and about I use an ABUS Granite lock / chain. Had it for years - long enough to easily go around lampposts / railings or other bikes when needed. Makes me feel safe! :)

Saying that I once had to collect a front wheel and forks that were chained to a lampost but the rest had been knicked

N cooke security on ebay do a nice cheap alarm with remote arming that has proved very handy on my 500/4 outside work after the same drunk idiot kept trying to start it at 2 am every weekend. Also allows remote start and stop. I scared the living **** out of the drunken sod when I fitted it by swtarting the bike and alarms all at the same time just as he was climbing onboard to do his kickstart attempt, then shut it off - It was the last time I ever saw him and his unwanted attention to my bikes. I prefer alarms to locks and chains, if it's easyer to use you'll use it, with a chain I found it was too much hassle and too easy to try to ride off still locked.

To quote to an insurer you'd have to use an approved device that they recognise as having been checked for security agianst a standard that they are willing to acknowledge......maybe worth a question to find out what is their expectation.
On a practical note, if you use a chain and lock then try not to leave the lock in a position that is too exposed so that it can't be walloped with a lump hammer against the floor.
