Hi, I have a 1973 K2 and the petrol tap will not shut off properly when closed.I have fitted a new rubber seal (round thing with four holes) but it still keeps dripping. Anyone think/know of a fix ? ? Thanks Adrian.
-
Did you fit the correct fibre washers unde the heads of the two screws holding the tap on---If not petrol will always leak through to the carbs.
Generic fibre washers don't work as they are too thin and too big OD for the correct ID
-
I had the same problem, and eventually changed the fibre sealing washers underneath the two securing screws that hold the tap to the tank. These are tapped into the tank and can leak with age.
Good luck!
-
Thanks both for quick reply. I'm talking about petrol dripping from the spouts where you put the carb feed pipes on not from tap to tank joint. Is that where you had your leaks ?

;) yes that is your problem the petrol is getting past the screws and fibre washers the only place left is for it to go ,is for it to drip from the tap and through the tap bowl and the feed pipes ,and you will only know this is by removeing the petrol lines (as you have done)and in extreme cases, :o if not recified you can have fuel leak from the carbs into engine and thin out the engine oil.

Okay thanks for the info. I would never have thought of those washers being the cause. Straight on to DS in the morning.
-
Sit down and take a deep breath when you order they are damed expensive for what they are
16993-011-000
The only workable alternative I have found are 6mm "Dowty" washers---they are the thick alloy type with the internal rubber seal as used in hydraulics
-
SORTED :) As you said, a bit dear for a few fiber washers and a O ring but glad it's done. Hoping to put it into a local show in 2 weeks (in a school hall) and if it was leaking petrol they wouldn't have allowed it. Thanks again for your help. 8)

There are members over there who have done this in the past. Bob Wessner is a member here. PM him.

I have same problem so would be interested in buying a few at a fair price!

This site/community is GREAT. :)

If the part number is that listed earlier [16993-011-000] I checked at ServiceHonda parts and they list them at $2.78 per.
P.S. BikeBandit lists them at $3.74 per
What is the site in Ohio a I should check
-
It's this one Bob, http://www.ohiocycle.com/catalog.html
Checked that site, but the part number listed in this thread and matched to their list indicates it is for these models below. Are you sure these are interchangeable with a CB750K?
C110,CA110 16993-011-000 FUEL COCK MTG. SCREW PACKING WASHER 1.50
S65,CA200+ 16993-011-000 FUEL COCK MTG. SCREW PACKING WASHER 1.50
S90,CL90+ 16993-011-000 FUEL COCK MTG. SCREW PACKING WASHER 1.50
CB,CL160+ 16993-011-000 FUEL COCK MTG. SCREW PACKING WASHER 1.50

Not to muddy the water further, but I own a 750K0. Checked my parts book and it lists this part as;
PACKING, fuel cock fixing 17993-250-000
And according to the parts book which lists parts for the 750 (K0), K1 and K2 being the same part for these models. Am I looking at the right part?
-
Bob the 011 number comes from the 500/550 book and yes the 750 is the 250 number but both petcocks are the same so I would think either will do
-
Thanks for the clarification. Has anyone ordered from or know anyone who has ordered from OhioCycle? No credit cards and they only accept money orders or cashier checks???
-
Today I had a look through my bits and bobs box and found some fibre washers that seem to fit very well on my tap, I have left the tank off overnight to see if it leaks, but looks dry up to now. Now these are generic fibre washers so I might be able to get some more if I can remember where I got them from! Will post again as these will be pence rather than pounds!
-
mickwinf, the originals are very thick and have an unusualy small OD. Generics tend to split later on as the are thin and deform when fitted
-
well they almost worked! Still got a slight drip though much better. Bryan the od seems ok, I might try using 2 on each screw and see what happens.
-
Mick, if you have a hydraulic shop nearby try some 6mm "Dowty" washers---they are the ally ones with rubber inserts. I had some luck with those on No 36 till the scroats torched it

Will they not accept a couple of $10 bills Bob? It's not like it's a lot of money and if you did lose it I'd be happy to compensate you.
Sorry for the delay in responding it's been busy here. If we're sure re: the part number, how many are we talking about? I'll check it out and let you know after you specify the quantity.
-
using 2 washers on each screw and making sure to tighten enough seems to have done the trick, time will tell!

I'll arrange ordering twenty (20) 16993-011-000 today. I'll keep you posted. You might want to send me your shipping address and I'll turn around and reship ASAP.
-
Say 20 Bob, don't know if they'll have that many. If not buy as many as they have in stock. 20 will supply 10 members with the new washers which is as many as I foresee needing them.
Just an update. Received notification today that they have shipped to me. I'll let you know when they arrive.
-
It would seem so, no indication they had to modify the order in any way.
-
Update - washers arrived today. However I won't be able to reship until Monday.
-
Ken, just dropped the washers at the post office. Let me know when they arrive at your end. I put the details in a PM to you.
Bob
-
Much appreciated.
-
hey oddjob have you got a pair of these washers for sale?
-
An old one this.
Sealing washers for the two 6mm screws for early 750/500 petcock.
Oddjob, do you still have any of these washers that you got from the US? Were they good and better than just fibre washers.
£20 for 4 washers from DSS!
-
Ordinary fibre washers are not thick enough and split
-
Four please. I'll send through some money.
-
No problem. Anyone else interested before I bury them in the loft again :)
I will take 4 mate.
-
I may as well jump in and have 4 my 750 tap lets by a little and its only a matter of time before one of the others do.
I guess there the same on the 550&400
-
I guess there the same on the 550&400
55o may well be the same but the 400 has a threaded boss on the tank that the tap screws on to.
-
Are there any left ? I would take a set please?
Thanks
-
Sent you a PM . I will take 4 instead of 2
Thanks
John
-
Sorted what are you going to do with all that extra space in the loft now? ;D
-
Ok Graham, still have your address.
That means I still have 10 left, might as well get them whilst you can guys :) and girls of course. Can't forget the formidable Julie :) :)
😊😊😊😊😊 I don't think I need any Ken (whatever they are!!!) but thanks for not forgetting me :-*
-
Probably under your new floor :P
-
I had the same issue... or so I thought. I replaced the tap only to find out that the pipe leading there from the tank became slightly porous at the edges and when the tank was full up, the pressure was enough to leak through it. Most people would have checked that first...;)
-
Arrived today :)
Thanks Oddjob another job on the to do list. ::)
Mick
