Hi guys.
I am about to get my first 400 next week. Now it needs a new exhaust system as the collector box is shot and it has an odd silencer and poor chrome on the down pipes. So I was intending to put a full replacement in from the Silver guys. Now my question is should the split collars be replaced as well or are they subject to condition? I will post pictures once I get the bike but it's a very low mileage model from Holland so need to get an MOT before I can register it. Thanks.

It depends greg whether its a show bike or a daily/once a week hack.they are quite expensive,so if it was me id clean the rust off and spray them up with some vht silver spray

I am not talking about the finned clamps at £25+ vat each! but the split collar pairs at £7.50 that go around the pipes before the finned collar clamps them along with the gasket.

Greg... don't know what your alternative forum had to say.... but if you do decide to re-new the set, beware.
I ordered a new set of these from DSS and they were about 10mm too long.... meaning I couldn't get enough thread from the studs to tighten down the finned collars. Ie the hack saw had to come out onto the new split collars.

Thanks Lobo. As I was putting in a new exhaust I was inclined to replace them, however as their job is to transfer the pressure from the finned clamps to the exhaust flange ensuring the new gasket seals. I think I will wait and see what condition the old ones are in.

make sure you dont get the big one,s [10mm] to long when you order them as for the u s ones they are smaller and no need to cut them down plus if you look at the parts number in the book there is to numbers one number for big set one number is for the small set ;) ;) ;)
