To be fair though the seller 'BikePusher' has sold some parts at decent prices recently like tanks, chainguards etc. It just that people are paying silly money for the fiddly little bits that easily get lost. It's not that his initial price is extortionate its just people getting into bidding wars. wonder where he is getting the original exhaust parts from in nice/NOS condition?

Hello, I have bought a lot of spares from this Seller and he has very good items and hard parts to get. The price??  auctions start in a LOW PRICE, but there is a lot of crazy people and they bid very high. I got spares very cheap from he!!! He send Worldwide and I think that is serious and Honest  Ebayer.

Last night I bought a flasher relay from 'Bike Pusher'.... remembering his last went from £7.99 to £12.50 in a last minute daft frenzy.  Anyways, I offered the £7.99 starting price with a top bid of a tenner... and went to bed.
Got it at £7.99... so no gripes from me. Have furthermore bought quite a few items form him in the past and honestly can't complain... always quick service & parts that honestly match their description.
And nope, I'm not on any kick-backs!

Agreed , the tanks and chromework he sold recently were a very  fair price. Wonder where he is getting the bikes to break from?

OK, and here I am, after one of my customers pointed me here (used to sub to the US forum, under a different name, some years back).

First, I want to take issue with steven400/4.  According to your mate who claims to have worked for me, I bid up my own auctions.  First, I don't.  Secondly, your mate has never ever worked for me, and this I know because there are just two people who have ever worked for my company, and they are me and my wife.  We have worked bloody hard to achieve eBay Top Rated Seller status, and I do not like seeing my livelihood jeopardised because some mouthy git decides to say things that aren't true.

For the rest - yes, I am utterly amazed at the prices some people pay for some items.  That cable guide is only the second of three that I have sold recently and they all made between £60-70.  You should understand that there are some people who are building bikes that must be 100% 'correct', and for some of these, money is no object when it comes to extremely rare items.  And God bless them, because they have put my younger child through university.

And thank you for the kind comments from two of my customers, and I recognise you both.

Now, I don't want to turn this into a commercial, because I think I have quite a bit to offer this forum (like I know 400 Fours absoluely inside-out), but I will say this: there are some right sharks out there, selling items that are either junk or not for 400 Fours at all.

We have tried to major on service: good and really, really accurately described parts, and on the rare occasions when we sell something that is not of top-notch quality, we say so.  We also despatch stuff very quickly, and on the very rare occasions when there's a quibble, offer an instant refund, including p&p costs.  And sometimes we say "keep the item as well" (as when I mistook a 400F starter motor for a 550F one - oops).

We also now send out a newsletter to customers, including technical tips and details of what goodies we have coming up soon.  Trust me when I say we are the Good Guys.  Which makes the earlier accusation even more irritating.

As for NOS stuff and where I locate it - it tends to fall into my lap.  Usually, NOS stuff goes straight back to Japan, believe it or not.  The Japs pay absolutely top dollar, but it must be NOS and preferably in the original packaging.

I do hope that's a reply to my post.  I do also hope that the character who claimed that his mate worked for me makes a gracious apology.....

Great for you to join us on here 'BikePusher', I only wish more suppliers would join us too. I am sure there must have been a misunderstanding somewhere along the line 'cos we are a friendly bunch on here  ;). Are you the person (Neil) featured on the 400/4 in this months CMM Mag? If so the article was a bit confusing as David Silver was mentioned in the RH corner of the article so not sure who photo was taken of ? Not surprising though because they once featured my 400/4 and Mark Williams said that I was restoring a rare CB750 'sandcast' too, which I was not, it was a K0.
Blooming expensive job getting the little 'uns through Uni . ..... tell me about it I am on the final leg after three going there!

Cheers .. AshD

Dunno about this month's CB.  I've worked for CB, CMCM, Bike and many others for 30 years, but have wound that down now, to concentrate on the business.

I restored a few bikes for classic mags, and had bits left over, and I've always been a 400F fiend, so it sort of grew from there......

I find there are three types of customer: (1) The ones who just want to keep an old 400F on the road, and aren't too worried about originality, though they want to keep it looking more or less stock (2)  The ones who want to get one as stock and good as possible, but are aware of costs and don't want to spend £4000 on a restoration (which is easily done) and (3) The ones who are building them to be absolutely 100% 'correct': replating original nuts and bolts, and getting stuff restored to as new when NOS stuff isn't available.

This last lot often have several bikes on the go at once.  One of my customers is aiming for 'one of each' - a blue one, a red one, a yellow one and a maroon one.  Money is generally no object to these types.

There's actually a final type, but very rare: the ones who are aiming to build one entirely from NOS parts.  For these guys, who I think have an endearing form of OCD, it's not actually the end product that matters, but the thrill of the chase.  Like stamp collectors.  Or, as a friend suggested, the thrill is in the hunt, not the kill.

Now, my 1978 CB750F2 is legally back on the road for the first time since 2008 (to go by the old tax disc), it's out of the garage, the chain is lubed, and I'm taking it to work.

Great reply. The mag is Sept. edition of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics not CB and the guys description of selling parts is almost identical to your description above! Even the bit about selling NOS parts predominantly to Japanese customers!
Please keep contributing...we all appreciate it and can then pass you on to new members as a good honest supply of parts. Luckily I restored my 400/4 in '86 just when David Silver was still working for Sondel and  got his first stash of parts to sell in MCM and Honda slashed its exhaust price to £100 (less clamps!). I owned every shade of 400/4 'back in the day' and commuted to work on them every day from late '77 to '85 until my Parakeet Yellow one was stolen from work, whilst I was away on a business trip, that unintentionally resulted in an overnight stay.

Cheers... AshD
