Title: The CB750K5 has arrived!
Post by: bike-pusher on October 15, 2014, 07:42:49 PM
From what I can see of it, down the side of the house, in the dark, in the rain, it looks good.  All you guys who asked about bits, come Saturday I'll be taking a good hard look at it and starting the business of breaking it.

Anyone want the engine and frame?  It's a US import but D&K have provided the paperwork to chuck at the DVLA.

Not knocking I also would like to have some bits but will not be ripped off though prepared to wait until other occasions arise.

Shame to see such a good-looking bike being broken. the term used in the U.S is 'parting out' and it somehow sounds better. Inevitably I suppose there are parts that nobody wants and end up in the scrap bin.

Thought I was the only one on here to feel the same way Peter. I just hate to see nice bikes broken up. That's why I have warmed to DK recently, as  they only break the no-hopers and tend to sell any decent ones for restoration. They recently sold me a bike for what they said was not much more than they paid for it and admitted they would get far more by 'parting it out'. Then when I told them I was going to restore it they found me most of the missing parts, including carbs and side covers after I had already  agreed a price but they didn't charge me or ask me for any extra. I was sceptical but they just sold a much less rare model for well over twice the sum I paid them.

Guess we are in the minority though Peter ! Probably borne out by the fact that we both tend to give parts away on here for free if we have any odd bits and pieces that are holding people's resto's  up.

Cheers .. Ash

I'm actually  with you as well Ash
but as i said to Bitsa does it mean sacrifice
one   to get half a dozen back on the road.
If there was a glut of good parts there wouldn't be a market ,would there?

It's the quote 'let the starry-eyed bidders fight it out over the 'in demand' stuff and the small clips and brackets' that I feel uneasy with  but before you shoot me down in flames Neil, as I said, I am in the minority and not running it as a business, so every man to his own. I just do it as a hobby and coming on here keeps me sane and makes me some new friends.

Cheers ... Ash
