Title: Bummer on Yamiya Ducktail seat
Post by: AshimotoK0 on February 07, 2015, 11:20:28 AM
Just joined Yamiya's Facebook site and got an instant response (see below, I am 6' 1" BTW !) to a question on their K0 seats. I think the Yamiya seat I (and others on here) bought from 'coastpath' on eBay is the low version. What a bummer literally   :( i think 'Frank' must have fitted one too to his JDM 750K0 he has on eBay. I am sure it originally had the seat cover I sold to it's PO., when i saw it at Lotherton Hall for sale.

More eBay fodder I guess. I am going to chase my letter up to Honda UK by phone on Monday and ask them why the F*ck I have to do all of this pi**ing about to get a seat at a reasonable (still bloody expensive) price  >:( :'(.. David at Saisei was offering them landed at the same price as coastpath but Honda won't let him sell them here.

The standard version is an authentic replica of original and correct for your bike. The low version is just a custom model. Short people need the low version so that they can ride the big bike more easier.

We supply the low version because there are many short people here in Japan compare to the western countries. CB750K series motorcycle was originally designed for oversea market back in the days, so the body size is big for Japanese people. Therefore, low version custom seat is very common in Japan.

I think it's just me fretting again Pete, as mine looks like yours. Problem is last time I saw a new genuine seat in the flesh was in 1970 in 'Peters of Hull's' window as a schoolboy.

Ash,

Not very scientific but these are the shots I took last year when my coastpath 'yamiya' seat arrived.

Definitely looks different to the stock seat on my K0's but close enough for comfort...

I'm sure it's the standard not the lower version though...

James.

Rigth, before i go for a bit of late night/ early morning stinky dipping. Petes and  James seats are correct, the lower ones are for the japs with less than a 30" inside leg ;D ;D

Steve Swan of SOOC did offer suggest I started a K0 site too, yonks ago but I have affection for all of my bikes including the twins. I was talking to a real sandcast guru at Stafford and was surprised when he told me his real affection was for the 400/4. There are lots of them about now and parts are getting more easy to locate but those bikes are still dear to most ex
-owners / owners  hearts. If you have never owned one, then borrow one and take ride on one.. lovely design in every way.
And short riders don't need a redesigned seat foam to touch the floor  ;)

This is standard apparently, according to the seller anyway.

Hi Rich, your seat actually looks much closer (more correct) compared to the std seats I have on my unrestored us k0's...
The seat I bought from coastpath has a much flatter finish.

Did this come from Mach IV?

Don't think that' Japanese Special' Low type is going to look correct on a UK bike. Suppose I could eBay it again, he seemed to sell the five he had very easily, although he was very cagey about the original and would not commit that they were made by Yamiya. I suppose they may be PMC ... never did find out the link between the two companies. One thing for sure becoming one of the 'Facebook Generation'  sure brings rewards because if I email Yamiya directly, I never seem to get a sensible answer, yet on FB I got two replies in rapid succession immediately after asking the question about the two seat types, and the replies were spot on. Wonder if 'Freddie' has a FB page, 'cos you never seem to even get an answer at all if you email him.
