Title: Starter button jiggerd
Post by: Andy1976 on March 16, 2015, 09:59:20 AM
Morning everyone, It's been ages since I've posted on here. I decided to get my F1 back on the road after a couple of years being laid up. It has sailed through it's MOT but soon developed a fault on the starter button. It wouldn't stop turning the engine over when I let go. I took apart the the throttle grip and the plastic part which holds the button, spring and wiring just disintergrated into tiny pieces.
Will a replacement part from a UK bike fit as My F1 is the American model and I'm sure the wiring will be different.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Thanks, Andy

Wow Andy ... been a long time since you posted .. How are you doing? Please post pics of the bits and maybe myself or someone else will have some spare internals that will fit.

On my K8 with lights on all the time, the start button also cuts the lights whilst starting,

Mine fell apart when I removed switch, but managed to clean up and re assemble (there is another staple shaped contact not shown)

If its the same on US F1 and you used a UK switch, would need to wire accordingly

This is what is left inside the switch. the white plastic box shown on martin's pic is what fell to bits.

You can fit a UK switch and have a lights on/off as well, you can even fit an early one if you modify the solenoid wiring

Thanks for the help guys.
I Managed to get the old girl going again, I had to buy a new switch from DSS. Managed a quick run to Bemton cliffs to see the puffins, then onward to Flamborough lighthouse for a brew, then home.
Still can't beat the feeling you get riding these old bikes. Love it
