This is odd, when I put the bike in gear the neutral light goes dimmer but doesn't go out altogether. I disconnected the wire from the sender and it went out until I earthed it and then it came on ok.
Any ideas?

It's a dodgy neutral switch. You could try removing it and giving it a good clean up, if that doesn't work, replace it

Watch when you put the casing back on. My switch earthed against it on the odd occasion. Took me ages finding the problem.

Not an issue on the 750 as the switch is under the engine:))

Has the switch been removed recently? if so, check the fitting of it and the o ring.
this has come up b4:

Just read through the other thread and it has given me a few things to try, thank you.
Note to self, the search box is my friend. ::)

My 750F1 neutral light stuck on not long after I bought the bike, I changed the switch but it did not cure the fault so I stuck some tape over the light, when I overhauled the bike I found that the switch wire had rubbed and was shorting on the bottom of the crankcase, taped it up and it's been OK ever since.
Cheers
