Title: Cam chain tensioner.
Post by: royhall on June 04, 2015, 06:00:19 PM
Can someone in the know have a quick look at these pictures and say if this tensioner blade is shot or re-usable. I think it's past it's best? Also, are the aftermarket tensioners any good or am I best with genuine. Thanks in advance.

As long as the rubber is not peeling off at the ends that is fine, a new one will look like that in a few 1000 as the chain side plates wear into the rubber till the rollers touch

Thanks Bryan. Looks fine except for the grooves. Will reuse it then.

The shop manual p77 gives 4mm new and 3.0mm service limit measured in the center for the tensioner

Dave.

Hi,
Make sure you check for small cracks in the rubber slippers, I have had that "age" fault on original tension blade at 38,000 miles.
