Hi, I'm considering either rebuilding my cb750 f2 engine or getting a reliable Honda engine builder to do it.
Is there anyone in the Kent area or within 100 miles or so ?

Spoke to D & M engineering today they build Honda race engines but there looking at March next year to start a rebuild, busy or what !
They said I should rebuild it myself, compared to British bikes there easy.
He also said if I need any advise he'd be pleased to give it.
A very helpful fella.
Anyway I have built about three engines and there still running good so I'll give it a go.
Advise was to use genuine parts but some pattern parts would be ok, which the route I always wish to take anyway.
With the Brit bikes the pattern parts are made of butter and are not up to it.
Anyway the engines already started the strip tease.

One question... Any special tools needed for the strip down ?

A special socket for the clutch retaining nut, reasonable on e-bay, and a tool to remove the generator rotor, although it is not necessary to remove it to strip or rebuuld the motor, only if you need to remove it from the crank.

Well you answered a question before I even asked it.
I stripped the engine today, well some of it.
A few screws of the alternator cover/ bolts seized in tight but I drilled them out successfully.
Where I'm at right now is head and cylinders off, clutch out except for the clutch basket which seems to need a tool... answered already
I still cant split the cases all bolts are out and there's very small case movement but around the rotor area seems not to budge.
I was assuming there's a seal behind the rotor area which would hold the cases back.
all other seals are out
The cases appear to have never been apart.
The valves look crappy and have been passing oil which the previous owner suggested.
Initial findings are new valves, maybe seats, but Ill have it all checked anyway
Rockers look really nice and bores look very clean
new pistons and rings, new cam chain and probably a lot more.
Anything I have missed on the engine that would stop the cases ?

Just ordered a clutch tool on e bay £10. ;)
I think this engine and the bike had been pressure washed and stood up a while, externally no oil but the ally's fluffy.
Most Brit bikes are oily , the advantage is they clean up well... but drip on your garage floor
The engine once stripped will go to the aqua cleaners.
Quite often I have seen the cases are painted, is this the general rule for the CB's engine ???

Yes, for the engine cases tend to be painted a silver/grey, the alternator , selector cover and clutch cover tend to be roughly polished then lacquered by Honda, many of us polish them far better than Honda ever did, and dob't lacquer them, just clean them regularly, aa if you get a pinhole in the lacquer the alloy corrodes beneath it looking awful, so your choice on that score!

Here's the engine at the start, sorry looking
the last picture is the clutch cover which needed to have some screwS drilled out.
That starter motor does not seem to come out, perhaps I'm doing something a miss.
It touches the rear right hand bolt fixing and wont go back anymore.
