Title: Valve Cover Bolts
Post by: jspocala on November 13, 2006, 01:02:46 PM
I am in need of new valve cover bolts for my 74 VB750 SOHC.  Serial number on the engine case starts with CB750E. It was manf in August 1973 by the serial number plate.  I just received a set from a US supplier that is aprox 1/4\" short.  I prefer the HEX head to the PHILLIPS #2 style.  The HEX head does not strip out like the PHILLIPS does over time.  Also, does anyone know of the torque setting for the valve cover bolts?
Thanks....

This is for a '79 CB650, but my manual says all 6mm bolts on the engine are 1.0-1.4kgm (7-10 lbft) and all 8mm are 2.4-3.0kgm (17-22 lbft). Nothing specifically mentioned for the valve cover, and I'd think that these will do for your engine.

regards, Phil

Hi,
Just replaced my valve/cam cover bolts with new chromed Allen headed ones from Custom Fasteners, they list an engine cover set but it does not include the cam cover.
Got the sizes from my parts book (CB750F1) they should be the same for your bike, they have to be ordered individually from their website, the sizes are:
No.   Size   Postion
10   6 X 63   6 forward 4 back, ordered 65 mm size
4   6 X 40   2 each end
2   6 X 75   Breather cover rear
1   6 X 50   Breather cover front
The Honda manual states 5.1 - 8.0 ft-lbs for 6mm screw, I've just bought a set of Allen screw sockets for my 3/8th torque wrench from Machine Mart.
Cheers
