Title: CB750K0 /CB500K0 Swinging arm bushes
Post by: AshimotoK0 on March 18, 2016, 07:56:49 AM
Pulling a favour from someone who 'owes me' and he's machining me two sets of phosphor bronze swinging arm bushes (same arrangement & part nos on CB750K0 & Cb500K0). I have the little phenolic end bush thing's (Item no. 9 pivot thrust)  from both bikes but do replacement aftermarket bushes normally accommodate that part as a 'top'hat' bit at the end of the bush. Or do I copy the old steel bush and use the phenolic bits?

Ash,  If these are a similar / same design principle to the 400, then the 'top hat' was part of the bronze bush.

The later 550's had the top hat bush so you can do either but I would get the collar ground circular first then make the bushes to fit, that way if they wear you can get a new collar and ream the bushes to fit

I think Trigger gets top hat bushes in PB from Germany,

I am taking note as I will need to replace them in about 20.000 miles time

That's what I am doing Bryan. Giving the guy the swinging arm and collar and he's making to fit as he has a 550 k himself years ago. Not even sure if the 500 actually needs them yet anyway.

If they are greased at the correct intervals (1500 miles) they last a heluva long time

The only problem I can see with pre-made bushes is that they are a 'standard' ID and I grind the original (mega expensive) collars very slightly to remove scuffing etc so need bushes with a slightly reduced ID. I did contact a guy in Poland I think and he said he would bore to a specific dimension though. Anyway I have the phosphor bronze and the guy making them owes me anyway so going down that route. Trigs source sure sounds good though, I wouldn't want to make and sell them for that.

The shaft only wears if not greased at times of service or it has been carrying a fat arse yank. Have fitted the needle roller type to a few bikes that the shaft had worn as it worked out cheaper in the long run
