CB350/400 / Lower Brake Hose
« on: July 17, 2019, 01:37:16 PM »
Is the metal pipe from the lower brake hose to caliper longer on the earlier models than the F2 model? I received one from  breaker known on here today, it was longer and a different shape to the one being replaced.

What kind of strange helmet was Marianne Faithfull wearing in the 1968 film 'Girl on a Motorcycle'? It looks like  a Beehive cum Hairdryer!

CB350/400 / Brake Caliper Screwed
« on: July 11, 2019, 06:45:33 PM »
Literally. When putting the brake caliper back together I noticed I was screwing the bolt that holds the metal end of the brake hose in at an angle.  :o I took it back out but found that the thread was stripped inside the caliper. Can this be retapped or am I looking for a new unit?

CB350/400 / Play in caliper
« on: June 16, 2019, 12:50:44 PM »
I have about a millimetre of play when I put the brake pad back into the fixed caliper on my CB400F2, is that ok? I'm still forever having trouble with a squeak to make the public wince.

« on: May 25, 2019, 04:21:10 PM »
I was packing my tool kit the other day when I discovered an 07 feeling gauge leaf in it's own little pcket on the tool bag. I can't figure out what it is for...pad clearance is a different size.

Misc / Open / Colour options and law...
« on: April 29, 2019, 09:01:58 PM »
Suppose I have obtained a second petrol tank and side panels for my motorcycle that are a different colour to the original. I want to enjoy the options, but do I have a legal issue with the bikes documents now?

Misc / Open / London's new ULEZ zone dodged!
« on: April 03, 2019, 04:03:01 PM »
My beloved Honda CB400F2 was officially registered as 'Historic' on April 1st in that she is 40 years old, as most of us know that means I didn't have to spend £66.00 on road tax or £35.00 on an MOT certificate, nor will I have to anymore at all. But the real saving is that I will not, unlike most people after April 12th, have to pay £12.50 a day for the privilege to ride in central London! The new ULEZ is Sadiq Khan's stealth tax for his pet projects I bet, because very few people drive in central London if they don't need to, and it means many people will simply take the long way around. I know how to navigate the place and on two wheels so I go there often, it helps having heritage between my legs!!! To check if you are affected (you probably are not) here is the ULEZ checker... https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/vrm-checker-ulez?fbclid=IwAR1wvdHPzUNlgxQ6F2rpCDIg3aRKk7pjn8GqNn4KdVSYg_DuL7gqrU_FuRE

Misc / Open / My Avatar .....
« on: March 03, 2019, 12:25:38 PM »
This is remarkable, I just discovered something by accident. You see the Squirrel in a Hawker Hurricane I've been using as an avatar? Obviously it was photoshopped we aren't THAT nuts, but what I hadn't realised is the human it is replacing is the father of someone I knew very well.  He was the adjutant of the Battalion I was in! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Stanford_Tuck

CB350/400 / Centre Stand cushion
« on: February 28, 2019, 11:49:58 PM »
I noticed my centre stand when up is in contact with my exhaust and I'm not sure that should be the case as nowhere can I see a rubber cushion I'll swear exists to stop that ....?

CB350/400 / Kick start return spring
« on: January 22, 2019, 03:45:50 PM »
Getting ready to return my clutch cover housing and while checking what to do I find two arms on the kick start return spring. The long one is simple enough, hook onto rib on crankcase as seen in manual, but same manual is not clear about what to do with the short arm if anything needs to actually be done. I see nothing making itself obvious either......is there?

Spot the peanut? Spot the culprit? Yesterday it was a walnut behind the cylinders, maybe like roast nuts too? ;D

CB350/400 / Exhaust Gaskets....how important?
« on: January 14, 2019, 02:08:51 AM »
In the next few days I'll have (hope) finished what I'm doing and back on with the exhaust system. Last time I tried replacing the missing exhaust gaskets but hey got so chewed up in my atempts I did what someone else might have done before and gave up with them. Are they very important and is there an easy way to fit them?

CB350/400 / Removing Clutch Cover Casing...
« on: January 11, 2019, 02:37:52 PM »
I'm in the process of taking the clutch cover casing of my CB400F2 for paint stripping and polishing thereafter, and to let me paint the other casing next to it. As you see in the image I've got as far as removing the bolts and obstructions. It obviously doesn't want to come off easily and I'm loath to start sticking a screwdriver or something between it and the crankcase cover. Is there an easy/proper way to do this. Also, when I put it back together is there anything this amatuer is going to find difficult. I've noticed it's a bit leaky around the kickstart shaft, new seal needed probably but from where?

Tricks & Tips / Protecting the paint on fuel tank...
« on: January 02, 2019, 01:59:05 PM »
What is the best way to protect the paint on a motorcycle fuel tank from fading and scratching where it tends to meet the groin often? I've bought some sticky film but I'm not sure I trust it, I don't want to stick a pad there either.......
