CB750 / Cb750 K5 rear disc conversion ??
« on: June 28, 2012, 03:32:40 PM »
Hi

Anyone ever converted their K5 SOHC rear brake into a disc , mine has a F2 front end with front drilled discs and looks great !!
I have been lucky enough to get hold of a full rear end including rear wheel with rear disc and calliper etc and swing arm . When I offer the swing arm up the alloy bracket looks like it might catch the rear foot peg hangers and the tube the rear Brake pin goes through . Other than that it looks like it might fit although I'm missing a rear brake master and reservoir if any out there has a spare ?
It seems that I might have to chop those pieces off but don't want to wreck the frame if it's not going to fit .
I can add photos if any one has any ideas

Thanks

CB750 / Carb needle heights ??
« on: June 09, 2012, 05:54:52 PM »
 :)
Hi been on my bike today , my mate told me when he followed me my bike really smelt rich , I've replaced all the jets and needles in all 4 carbs . I have adjusted the air screws ( screwed all the way in and then out until the idle picks up ) this was about 2.5 turns out ..
I fitted the needles on the second slot from the top like the old carbs were . Any one know if this is about right ?
If I was to drop it a slot would that make it better ? Runs fine when warm but a pig when cold ( see my other topic) how far should you screw those air screws out is 2.5 too far ?

Cheers again

CB750 / Generator cover ?
« on: June 06, 2012, 04:54:18 PM »
 :)
Hi been checking my bike out today as I'm off on a Bike Safe class on Saturday so don't want it to show me up !
I've seen an oil leak coming from the casing of the generator ,it seems that the the bike has been on its side at one stage and scraped the generator cover making it very thin, it seems that the case has given up  and started to leak from a small crack ,I've repaired it or now with chemical metal type stuff which I've used before and is brill .
I am looking at chroming this and other casing parts in the winter , looking for an undamaged generator cover if any one has a spare one they can sell me ,I can assure you it will be going to a very good and loving home

Thanks again

CB750 / Cold start / rough running when cold
« on: June 02, 2012, 06:02:09 PM »
 :)
Hi again
I've a CB 750 K5 and have what I thimk is a running problem from cold although it might be how they are ?
I've replaced plugs ,coils, plug caps, fitted electronic ignition, stripped and replaced all internal bits of carbs, balanced carbs, valve clearances etc checked ,fuel filter fitted etc .
When you start it up it idles but try and rev it for the first minute or so and it just dies and splutters
Once on the road it's rough for a couple of miles ,once warm she runs a and idles fine ..and starts on the button just fine
Anyone has this prob or are they generally like this and I will have to live with it ?

Thanks again

CB750 / Crankshaft seal behind points
« on: May 17, 2012, 05:53:30 PM »
Hi
I've fitted a new crank seal behind the points plate o my cb750 SOHC when I rebuilt my bike a short while ago . From what I remember it was a right pain to fit ( it's the original from dave Silver) the edges where serrated and it didn't go in that well , anyone had the same problem ? Is there another seal available somewhere else ?
Thanks again
Look forward to hearing your comments

CB750 / clutch not engaging and dragging !!
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:36:51 AM »
 :o
Hi

I've got my 750K started now and rode it yesterday !!  only thing that's a problem is the clutch no matter how I adjust the cable or plunger in the casing the clutch doesn't seem to disengage fully, all I seem to do when adjusting the cable etc is move the bite point , when you pull the clutch it feels ok but when you select 1st it clunks forwards and starts to move the bike, then of course changing up or down when riding gets tricky, and of course when you stop you cant get it back into neutral.
When I bought the bike from a A*se on ebay I stripped the clutch only to find it was missing (the plates basket and everything) I bought another on Ebay.

When I came to fit it I had to take out the black splined washer as it pushed the whole clutch assembly too close too the casing and the engine wouldn't turn over. Once the washer was removed it was fine and there was a clearance.
Is there a way the plates fit a direction of rotation etc as I cant remember looking for that do they have to sling oil off to work ?

I also remember that between the clutch plates where thin metal plates and one thinker metal plate all I did was put it where it was in the clutch when I got it in the box from the seller ,I couldn't find a picture of a clutch with this extra thick plate although without it Im sue the plates would be too slack in the cage.
should I try and slip the clutch when riding to free it up or has anyone any ideas

Thanks again  ;)

CB750 / cam shaft oil starvation
« on: January 16, 2012, 04:31:11 PM »
Hi

Well started my bike for the first time after about 2 months, Ive stripped the engine replaced all seals and gaskets etc, replaced inlet valves also after finding they were bent !!
I've looked on this forum and was paranoid about all sorts of stuff so after about 5 minutes of the engine running I removed the tappet adjust covers and looked inside, seems 1+2 cylinder has oil around the base of the valve springs, took 3+4 off and they are totally dry. May be me but I thought that because that the bike was on its side stand the oil might have gone to one side ???
But to be honest think that I may be fooling myself !!!!
I remember when fitting the cam carrier there was two oil ways coming from the centre head bolt which had o rings around them and another two oil ways in the head that didn't have holes in them but strangely still had O rings is that normal ?
Think I will have to take the engine out again (third time !!!!!!!!!!!!) and have a look at the oil ways to the cam shaft, anyone have any ideas/photos about what I should be looking for.

Although its dry on one side I do feel lucky that I haven't ridden it and snapped the camshaft and made even more work/cost for me..

would really love to hear your comments, I've got tomorrow off so will be stripping it again then if needed !!

Thanks

CB750 / Honda cb750 K5 with F2 front end front end soft
« on: January 12, 2012, 04:21:38 PM »
Hi
can any one  give me some advice I have a 1975 K with a F2 front end, the front falks are quite soft I seem to be able to push them down quite easily I have changed the falk seals and replenished the oil,I was told that Medium oil should be used to refill them with 10 viscosity 155CC s of it .. the manual stated 10/30 Castrol TQF which from memory is car PAS fluid and auto gearbox oil ..

any advice greatly received

I haven't ridden it on the road yet so it might just be like that normally but Im sure my previous bikes were not as soft..

Thanks again
