This past few days, when I go to start the bike for the first time of the day, the starter button is dead.  Something had me wonder and I moved the kill switch back and forth a few times and hey presto, it starts and there is no more trouble all day. Any ideas?

My friends thirteen year old daughter just had her motocross bike snatched off her at a track by six louts, another dirt bike owner told me of the numerous attempts to break into his garage. In London a scooter owner told me 'I'm quite safe...it's scooters they are after'. By now I'm asking are we safer than others? Nothing will stop me using a monster chain and bike cover whatever.

I don't seem to have any on my bike, I'll have to go a check perhaps, but do they matter? Most of the warnings seem to be useless and in pigeon English.....preserve nature wear a helmet! I raise the matter because they are all over the after market scene, is it more about originality?

Changed my fork oil today, the first time by me rather that someone else(?) while unscrewing the drain bolt on one it didn't feel right an lo behold when it was time to put it back I found that while there was reasonable purchase it wouldn't tighten down, so the thread is screwed, literally. On a CB400F it seems to be a tight spot with not too much space to work with, has anyone had this hole helicoiled or rethreaded?

Today I was removing tappets to inspect their contact surfaces and dropped one down the inspection hole  panic... thoughts of top end rebuild going through my head. I could just see it and wondered how to retrieve it without losing it again. I got a strong magnet I have indoors but the force wasn't reaching. I then took a long screw driver and spent half an hour making that magnetic.... I managed to fish it out that way.

A while back I noticed a black plastic cap on the floor while working on my bike, I couldn't figure out where it might have come from and so went on to ignore it, can't find it again. It will have come from the kick start knuckle, looking at the attached diagram I'm wondering if anything else went missing, does anything matter? Thinking of finding anything that fits to replace it.

Cylinder numbers 1-4 are simply counted left to right? I'm sure they are but I can't find anything in the manual to confirm. I did my tappets today because of a clicking sound from the right side top end, didn't have any problems until I tried to get the feeler gauge under the number four (?) inlet valve, I just could get it to do that until I slackened things of like I thought the tappet might get unscrewed, but when I did and set it I thought problem over and closed up the patient. Start engine and clicking is much louder, I'll have to try again tomorrow. Mein gott vot haf I done? Any ideas?

Mine won't budge,  it's soaking in WD40 just now in case that helps. Before I go and burst a blood vessel or strip the thread first.....it does undo by turning counter-clockwise like most bolts do?Might be the daft question of the month, maybe not,  but I'm getting paranoid lol!

I've been looking at the price differences between OE carburetor retaining clips on the DSS site and the difference cost between the two sets either side of the carburetor is huge, yet they seem to decay just as quick as each other.
