CB500/550 / Fork rebuild
« on: August 21, 2021, 08:59:06 PM »
Evening all,
Newbie here and first post in the CB550 section but please redirect me if this needs to be posted elsewhere.
I am currently rebuilding my forks and whilst the fork cases were ok (after some vapour blasting!), the main pipes were badly corroded where I suspect the original gaitors/boots had held water in.
I bought a new set of forks on ebay, which were advertised as 550 forks - as it was cheaper than trying to source pipes in good condition alone. When I stripped these down I noticed the bottom pipe/dampers were different from the originals I am replacing.
Do any members know if these may be from another model and should I be concerned if I use these on my CB550 and just swap in the new pipes?
