Misc / Open / Does your bike sport the old Tax disc?
« on: July 23, 2020, 06:08:43 PM »
I just fitted an obsolete tax disc to my bike, they have been out of use for six years now, but like the black metal registration plate she wears at the back, it contributes to the 'look and feel' of a historic vehicle. This one ran out twenty years ago, my CB400F2 was already 22 years old then. I hope it doesn't get pinched though, last thing I heard these discs are starting to sell well!

Now, my after market horn I have to replace only has one 'bayonet' on it, the replacement has two. My switch gear is new stuff from DSS.

Not if its a later type which has a wire powered by the switch and a loop to earth from the other contact. You need to check if the wire you have is connected to earth when button pushed or has +ve 12v when button pushed
Do you mean a later model (mine is a 1978 F2) or later horn?

I went to fit the new horn I got from DSS today, to replace the semi-functioning non original snail thing I've got now. Oh great...the new horn has fittings for two wires, the snail has only one brown wire. Where can I get these wires, I can't find any and also how to fit them.

Dean...I mean the number on the brackets not the coils! ...oh, I see what you mean, the one with N on might be original, ok.

I'm in the process of trying to get a pair of brackets for the coil I will have to replace. As you can see some bum down the line lost them and replaced them with a gaggle of spacers and nuts, I can't think how that escaped my eye mind. But I've ordered a pair of left hand brackets from a well known on here breaker and he sent me this message : 'I am not sure which ones are the left but they have a combo of two letters on them so let me know'
Well as you can see in the image I've sent one of the two still on the bike have lettering on one bracket.....what should be on the other if things are universal?
By the way, it seems one of the coils has already been replaced, does anyone know which is original if either?

The cush drive rubbers I would replace if they look like they are very perished, and they probably are by now, which can't do your chains and sprockets any good.  DSS can sell you them : https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB400F-SUPER-SPORT-FOUR/part_3333/
You can get genuine and aftermarket wheel rims and spokes on the same site.

CB comes from the Japanese words "Cobasha - Biokeosan" meaning "Combustion Bicycle".

AAHHH--Sole!  ;D
