If #1 & #2 are wetting the plugs, I would be inclined to look at the points gap & timing. It may be that the points have closed up & the plugs arn't producing a spark. As the carbs are more difficult to access, check the ignition first...with a timing light preferably.

I didn't have a PRR/SS but it was based loosely on the PRR.

When I went to the Isle of Man TT back in '83 I wanted to position my bike in the same place as Bike magazine did when testing the PRR  & placed in front of the Highlander pub on the TT course

I fitted BB pointless ignition to my 750 special without any problems...ever. I also fitted Andrews high performance coils, silicone leads, resistorless plug caps & NGK D8EV plugs. When I installed the blue & yellow leads to the laminate back plate I used thread lock to stop the small nuts on the connector posts from coming undone.

CB500/550 / Re: CB550 K3 SWITCH GEAR
« on: April 04, 2013, 04:28:56 PM »
The switchgear wiring on the CB550K3 was differant to the same switchgear on the CB550F1/F2 because the wiring was external of the handlebars on the K3 whereas it went through a hole & was internal of the bars on the F models. Accordingly, this is why the K3 had the connector block as against bullet connectors on the F models.

This is the page from the Honda catalogue showing tyre sizes

On all of my CB550s I fitted 4.10x19 fronts & 4.25/85x18 rears with no problems whatsoever. never had tyre flex or speed wobble, despite provocation. My favourite tyres were the Dunlop Red Arrow front & Avon Roadrunner rear.

I'm with Lynbrook http://www.lynbrookins.co.uk/90285/info.php?p=5 for my Exup1000 & for £54 I get classic cover including breakdown/recovery on a limited mileage agreement of 1500 pa. Suits me as I have three other bikes on the road at the same time.

This is the one from a Honda catalogue for a CB750K5

...& a CB550F1

...& a CB400F

So the internals should be quite easily swapped across from the switches of these models into the early CB500K alloy finish housing

That's interesting Yoshi as you seem to have been way ahead of the design curve there in that people making specials for decades have gone for a lowering of the center-of-gravity as you've raised it........which is what they are all doing now in Moto-Gp as they corner faster this way especially with the sort of tyres used now.

I wanted more ground clearance as the sticky tyres available in the early '80s were nothing by comparison to todays. But as the development of my 750 Special progressed I had some wider rim CMAs specially made so that I could fit Metzeler Comp K tyres in a wider fitment ie. a 160x18 ME1 rear and a 110x18 ME33 front. With the uprated suspension it handled really well, regularly outcornering more modern bikes.

The accelerator pump mechanism starts with a tab on the throttle cable pulley pushing against a rod which pushes down onto a diaphragm. This pressurises a fuel rail which supplies all four carbs & squirts a stream of petrol directly into the mouth of the opening carb throat.

That does look very good Yoshi, didyou say you used a 900 front fork on it?

I ended up fitting 35mm forks from a CBX1000Z which gave me plenty of room to mess around with front height as i'd fitted some rear shocks from a CB900/CBX1000 as well, which are a good 30mm longer than standard 750F2 shocks & gave much better ground clearance.

Don't you mean Comstar wheels?...as standard fitment to the CB750F2/CB900FZ/CBX1000ZA?

Fork legs from a CBX1000ZA or CB900FZ also fit the CB750F2, as do the rear shocks from those models.
