I have the engine in the stand, would you take it out and turn it upside down to split it or just carry on with it in the stand?

Damn!! Took the sump off  today and found these two pieces lying there...don't know where they've come from yet but it's a bit of a dampener on such a nice day!

Tricks & Tips / Wheel bearing retainer removal
« on: April 22, 2018, 09:09:16 PM »
This worked quite well...I used an adjustable angle grinder spanner tapped into the cut out sections on the retainer to remove it, after drilling out the stakes. Worth a go if you have one lying around!

Wheels look great .....got me thinking about doing my own instead of sending them away somewhere. It sounds complicated with 'offset' measurements etc  but the rear wheel looks to be central over the spoked section?

CB750 / Re: Seat recovering

Cheers Andy,
It's a David silver seat cover,  seems fine but it came without the Honda logo and no strap and it's the only one I've used so I haven't anything else to compare it to. The logo and strap were easy enough to add but it's all an extra cost.
The foam on mine was perished and crumbling so I got a replacement foam from 'Bob the seat' on eBay..he does the seat covers and straps as well.
The seat covers are not as thick as the original and will show up any defects in the foam when fitted, but as long as your seat foam is in good nick not missing any pieces it should be ok?

When fitting it i taped the rim protector and foam in place, then warmed the cover up with a hairdryer, made sure it was central on the foam, then started in the middle stretching and securing it on the seat base spikes. I gradually worked my way from the centre, alternately, to both ends. I also used a contact adhesive to neaten things up underneath once I had finished. Although it's not as neat a finish as the original which had a neat stitched hem around the edges of the cover.

To get the cover on without moving the foam about on the base I partially covered the foam with a sheet of plastic, put the cover on then pulled the plastic out.
Pic of the finished seat attached.
Mick
Ps I don't why these pictures appear upside down on the thread! They appear the right way up when viewed! 🤔

Ok 👍  Thanks for that...ill probably end up farming that out! I've never reamed anything and probably not a good idea to start now! 😬

I've seen threads re pre honed guides on the US site... What's the score with these..do these do away with the need for reaming after fitting?  opinion seems to be divided?

Checked the valves over tonight..looks like they and the guides will need replacing they failed on both the valve guide clearance and vertical run out measurements...by a large margin! doh! 😕  On a more positive note the springs are ok! 😊
u

The valve face is pitted, this is down to the valve clearance being too tight. These will need re facing  ;)

The valve seats look ok tho! 😬

OK, they need to be honed out until the lip is visible no more. Then you can get a true measurement  ;)
I know what all the books say to the max spec but, when this engine was new, the piston to bore clearance was tight and when I mean tight, less than 1 thou.

Cheers Trigger, I'll see about getting that done ...👍

That looks better. The skirts are very tight on a Honda.
Is there any lip at the top of the bores, pics please  ;)

Yes I can feel a lip.
