Now that's a good idea, thanks.  8)

what's wrong with gluing them?
If I need to remove one for any reason at a later date it will take the paint off with it.

CB500/550 / Fixing 500 side cover badges
« on: July 03, 2019, 02:12:03 PM »
I have had the side covers painted and need to reattach the badges but both have a short end peg where it's been snapped previously. They were glued to the panel where the short peg was and I don't want to do this for obvious reasons.

Has anyone found a succesful way of either extending the peg or attaching the badge without using glue. Doubtful I know, but if I can avoid £70 for a new pair I will. TIA

All MOT's come with the bike, waxoyled from new by the now 81 year old owner and unmarked original condition. Wasn't looking to buy any bike, let alone a CX but couldn't resist. Not ofetn they come along in this condition.

Not SOHC but Honda nevertheless. these things come along when your not looking and sometimes you just have to buy it. 1983, 13000 miles from new, all history and one-owner. Mint is not the word.

No need to buy a new one, just straighten it out.

Misc / Open / Re: Drive or Ride?
« on: May 20, 2019, 01:18:22 PM »
The word drive refers to operating most vehicles fitted with an engine in as much as you control the vehicle by driving it. This would include a car, bus, lorry, tractor and a motorcycle. You ride a motorcycle whilst driving it as oposed to sitting within it, so ride is what we do whilst driving.

Driving (adjective) is defined as the control and operation of a motor vehicle. A motorcycle is a motor vehicle.
Ride noun) is defined as to sit on and control the movement of many things including motorcycles and pedal cycles.

So, ride it is  8)

Anorak's Corner / CB750 four baffle into CB500 four
« on: May 19, 2019, 11:04:59 AM »
I've been thinking ahead a little about what to do when the silencers finally give up on my 500 four K1. I noticed that the CB750 has removable baffles, secured by a screw and started wondering. The 750 baffles are not expensive and readilly available but the 500's are welded in place. it's likely that the baffles will disintegrate before the rest of the silencer.

It wouldn't be a big job removing the weld and inserting the 750 baffles if they fit and would be the ideal time to get them rechromed. The question is do they fit? I can't be the first person to think about this, so maybe someone knows for sure?

A quick hunt around uncovered this but don't know if it's the correct one or too expensive?

« on: May 10, 2019, 05:49:57 PM »
What a load of twaddle. You can use car/truck/bus oil in a bike, as long as the spec is correct  ;)

And that's the important bit. If the spec is correct it matters not whether it's car, bike, marine or lawn mower oil.

CB500/550 / Re: Air filter case washer 17318-323-010

There is an angled slope on the bottom front edge that gives a little more clearance for the threaded part to protrude into the air filter case. I've attached a picture that may help you visualise it.

I have my airfilter case apart and forgot how that part (17318-323-000) should be oriented. You have to look well, but the pic in the CB500K2 (ED, F, G) parts list seems to suggest it protrudes into the chamber and not into the hole. https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cb500k2-general-export-f-16-air-cleaner_big3IMG01171138_b55e.gif Is that right?

Yep, into the chamber is correct and the filter is slanted at the front to accommodate it.

When the floats are in the bowl the level will rise, so all is good.
