CB750 / Re: K1 top yoke
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:54:46 PM »
Removing the handlebar bosses on the top yoke that was fitted to my K6 or K7 (not sure which model the top yoke was from) would leave 2 large holes, I would question the integrity of the yoke once this had been done, I have ordered a CR750 replica top yoke from Honda Racing ltd £108 , I'm told a Cbx1000 top yoke is a straight swap though, depends what look you are going for.
Re the Honda racing ltd Cr750 top yoke below you send them your top yoke and they machine their casting to match.

if any1 is near scarborough and is interested it is on the road legal (tax runs out end of month) please see piggys project for photo , i would love it to go to an enthuisiast.
Given that the forks have been re-chromed (£150 ish) and there are £300 worth of spares I would think £1500 to £1800 is a fair price, I cant find piggys project for the photo though, which section is it in?.

CB750 / scrap wheels wanted
« on: February 21, 2014, 05:15:28 PM »
Does anyone have a pair of scrap cb750 wheels (or just a front wheel) I could buy or borrow whilst mine are away at central wheels being built with alloy rims, I'm in derby but could pick them up within a 50 mile radius, central wheels have a 5 week lead time and I can't have the bike immobile for that long because it will hold the build up, cheers mark.

Tricks & Tips / Seized brake mounts
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:14:54 PM »
Here,s how I freed mine , they were seized solid having been motionless in a damp garage since 1995
1 drill a 4mm hole through the aluminium body of the arm until you hit the steel pivot pin, do this approximately half way up the aluminum arm body as that is where the grease recess is situated on the pivot pin
2 soak overnight in a bowl of plus gas or similar penetrating oil
3 grip the single bolt end of the pivot in a vice, heat the bracket with 2 bolt holes and work it to and fro until it can be pulled off
4 heat the aluminium arm at the pivot end with a heat gun, get it really hot
5 tap the calliper end of the arm from side to side with a soft mallet, not too hard
6 apply penetrating oil and continue to tap the arm from side to side, if it doesn't move apply more heat and oil
7 once it starts to move grab the arm (whilst wearing welding gloves, its hot!) And work it to and fro
8 keep working it side to side and pull upwards at the same time, the arm will start to come off the pivot
9 once it is apart clean off the corrosion
10 drill out and tap the 4mm holes that you drilled and fit grease nipples
11 grease the pins and reassemble fitting new O rings at the top and bottom of the pivot pin.

CB750 / Re: CB750 K7 Pattern fork stanchions??
« on: February 17, 2014, 07:50:27 PM »
Yes, works out cheaper than pattern parts so all's well that ends well, I do wonder how many different bikes have contributed to the one I bought!, the old fella that I bought it from took it off the road in 1995, I'm sure he's unaware of it's dubious past, he's 82 now, he has contacted me a few times asking how his old beloved K7 is doing, I wont bother telling him it never was a K7  :)

Well I contacted David Silver and from the measurements of the stanchions that came with the bike they ain't K6 stanchions!, how many models is this bike made up from!! :), Hard Chrome Plating at Mansfield will straighten, re-chrome, grind and polish for £150 including VAT and return postage,(link below) cant complain at that, a friend got his 4/4 forks done there a few weeks ago and they are spot on.

CB750 / Re: Anyone wanting Alloy wheel rims??
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:18:20 PM »
Front wheel rim arrived, really nice, thanks for the recommendation Pete, unfortunately they don't have any 2.50's till the end of March so I'm trying to decide whether to go for the 3.0 rear  :-\.

Philpot hard chroming in Luton only charge £165 with p&p both ways. If you send them with the top caps they will also do those for free. I have used them for the past 24 years and, you still have the originals.
Is that including straightening?.

CB750 / Re: CB750 Frame numbers, I'm getting confused!
« on: February 16, 2014, 05:09:10 PM »
Mark have you thought about a gl1000 front end for the project? 38mm stanchions and more or less a bolt on conversion. You could also use the did flanged front rim from the gl1000. Just a thought...
Yes I had considered it , dynamically it's probably the better option,  but I wanted as much of the original CR750 look as possible (within severe budgetary constraints! :)) so wanted the callipers in front of the forks etc, (that's in no way a criticism of the bike pictured which looks great).

I'll give David Silver's a call tomorrow, they are selling K6 stanchions, I'll ask if they can give me the measurements of their stanchions, they are usually very helpful, failing that I'll just have to get the ones I've got straightened and re-chromed, a lot of messing about though compared to just replacing, thanks all for your help.
