The only thing I found to clear the hole was to snip a bristle from my wire brush and it worked a treat. No pin in the house was small enough

I had mine leak a while back so I got a new seal from DS but then noticed it didn't appear to be leaking, left it as it was and it has never leaked since! go figure.

Quite mild here as well. I don't really care how cold it is it just needs to be dry, been out 5 times so far this year. But my 550 is a pig to start in the cold weather, thank god for gel batteries!

Just put in new points, plugs, new head cover gasket, oil and filter change etc but the weather every time I have a day off is crap! I just want to get out and ride the old 550, but I  will never SORN it as I like to ride year round if the conditions are good.

When I do it I always leave the all the rubbers attached to engine and airbox, but take filter etc out and undo airbox mounts and the box will move back slightly, but just enough, still bloody fiddly though. 20 mins to get off usually and about 90 mins to get em back on!

My charger has a switch setting for either gel or lead acid.

Mr Moose you are probably right there, having the whole lot of 'em in your hand trying to get the 1 inch strip down into the tappet clearance is a nightmare! I used to work in a garage back in the 70's and we had 1ft long individual strips, sooooo much easier!

Cheers for this guys, may have to go with Louis ones but they are standard length and real fiddly to use so was ideally looking for long individual strips that I can bend at the ends if such things exist.

« on: June 01, 2015, 06:26:40 PM »
My 550 ticks over fine at 1500 rpm, there's nothing wrong with this, don't try to get it too low, there is no point at all despite what some will say. The 550's and some 70's Hondas were prone to 'low end clack'
