I thought the early ones did not have stem seals on the exhaust side, i have not been into mine so unable to verify.

Thread a length of rope into the cylinder bore then raise the piston to compress it against the valve bottom, do the job, lower piston, pull rope out, don't forget to leave enough rope hanging out of spark plug hole to retrieve the rope though.

Dyna-S made a big difference on both my GS1000HC and CB750F2. Can't really understand why people stick with points, or do they still have a black and white TV with vacuum tubes? Especially with the points that are available (Daichi) they are rubbish.
I believe the points and condensers are original, Nippon Denso's, bike still only less than 5.5k on the clock.

That's 2 mods that have improved my bike too;  the Dyna S and the H4.

Tip. Use some threadlock on the securing screws on the Dyna sensors.  One of mine came loose and I lost half of my sparks. Use some more heatsink  compound if you have some.
Already done Mike, cheers anyway.

Added a Dyna-s to the 350f today, makes a lot of difference to start up, repaired a sealed light unit by converting to H4, got a new unit on order though, and put a tail tidy on my Z Thou [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
Would have MOT'd it last Saturday but for the light, so took it today and she passed the light set up and aim was perfect, i will still MOT my bikes even though they don't need to be , will still change it when new unit arrives though.

You are cleaning away all the patina  ;), i don't think my 350f has ever been cleaned thoroughly in it's 47 years, though i do wipe down the bright work a couple of times a year, i must get round to it this spring .

I found the carbs relatively easy to put back on compared to my Z thou, mind you new rubbers were used both sides of the carbs.

Just noticed this thread and the phrase better than new kills it, if it's better than new it's over restored and certainly not worth the money, when are the restorers going to get it right. Just my own outlook on it.

Don't blame you for not doing a restoration as it takes away the originality, my own has a wonderful patina that cannot be replicated, and parts that needed replacing done.

I have a ribbed 18" Cheng Shin tyre fitted to the front of my CB400/4. Bloody brilliant. Lovely soft compound which is what I like and it sticks to the road like shit to a blanket. I ride the 400 hard and have 100% confidence in the front tyre, will defo buy another when time to replace. I should add I don't have one of these fitted to the rear, I would wear it out in 500 miles 😀😀😀
Julie do you shit on blankets often?😂, i have no experience of it or Cheng shin tyres🤣

If the cylinder has never been apart before the chances are the inside is corroded, so best option is to replace the whole set up, if you want to keep it original you can get the cylinders relined at past past in Norfolk, they do a top job.

When i done my 500k3 i had to machine down part of the speedo drive as it fouled on the disc, aside from that and just a new master cylinder every thing else was straightforward.
