CB750 / clutch not engaging and dragging !!
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:36:51 AM »
 :o
Hi

I've got my 750K started now and rode it yesterday !!  only thing that's a problem is the clutch no matter how I adjust the cable or plunger in the casing the clutch doesn't seem to disengage fully, all I seem to do when adjusting the cable etc is move the bite point , when you pull the clutch it feels ok but when you select 1st it clunks forwards and starts to move the bike, then of course changing up or down when riding gets tricky, and of course when you stop you cant get it back into neutral.
When I bought the bike from a A*se on ebay I stripped the clutch only to find it was missing (the plates basket and everything) I bought another on Ebay.

When I came to fit it I had to take out the black splined washer as it pushed the whole clutch assembly too close too the casing and the engine wouldn't turn over. Once the washer was removed it was fine and there was a clearance.
Is there a way the plates fit a direction of rotation etc as I cant remember looking for that do they have to sling oil off to work ?

I also remember that between the clutch plates where thin metal plates and one thinker metal plate all I did was put it where it was in the clutch when I got it in the box from the seller ,I couldn't find a picture of a clutch with this extra thick plate although without it Im sue the plates would be too slack in the cage.
should I try and slip the clutch when riding to free it up or has anyone any ideas

Thanks again  ;)

started stripping the carbs the main jet on the old carb part seems to be stamped with 105 and the new one has 110 on it does this make a big difference the needle was set in the middle so I fitted the new needle in the same place

Any ideas

I used simoniz engine paint/laquer in a alloy colour, got off ebay. very good and I used it to paint bolt heads etc looks great and easy to spray on. sure you can get it in other colours

good luck

P.s Look at my post on camshaft oil starvation !! don't do the same as me with the  paint and end up with it in your oil and blocking oil ways !!

Hey Thanks

Ive the engine back in now with the rockercover on,as you say it would have been better to check for oil before hand but I was happy I found enough restriction to cause the fault  (there was a little oil getting through. the other link was very good but has made me nervous now about every thing seizing in the future,Im running the bike this summer and will be changing the camchain etc in the winter if the rattle that they all have annoys me enough ..

Thanks again and Ill keep you updated

Thanks for all your comments

Stripped the engine today and checked out the head oil restrictors and guess what the dry side was partially  blocked with what looked  like paint flecks, lesson to be learnt don't paint the engine casings and paint the inside with engine  paint or should i say over spray anyway .

I also decided to whip the sump off and check that and again loads of flecks of paint and some what looked like cleaning rag material this was partially blocking the oil pump filter !!!!  glad I stripped it as it could have happened again with the dry head Like playing Russian roulette with the engine ..

I still have to put fresh oil and another filter and hope that the oil gets up there but very very happy I actually found something after a days work .

Ill keep you all up[dated when I get her started again

Thanks again

Hi

I have a K5 and Have what I think is a K7 front end with the front discs and master cylinder it fit just fine may be cheaper to just buy a full front end I know you might have to change the wiring etc..

Good luck
