CB750 / The difference between US and UK spec
« on: March 23, 2011, 08:33:39 PM »
Hi all, my CB750 f2 is US spec (see pic below) What is the difference between US and UK spec ?

My seat isn't standard so ignor that, as far as i can tell looking at some UK spec bikes on here the main difference are the handle bars, switch gear and maybe the rear light position. Although why would the US bike have its rear light sat higher than the UK bike ? (look at uk pete's bike).
The rest of the bike looks pretty much the same to me.

Any ideas where i can get hold of the side seat strips from ?

Cheers Paul.

......... My Cb 750f2 will require its engine repainted at some point in std black. I intend to use an earosol based paint. Any ideas what paint i should be using to obtain the correct heat resistnt finish and is it satin finish ?

Cheers Paul.

CB750 / Re: Crunching gears

Good luck with the MOT Pete.........

Just a quick note on the f2 gearbox, when i test rode the bike i bought last week i was surprised how slick the gearbox was even into 1st gear there was no sign of crunching at all. I just assumed this was mormal as i've heard nothing different about these bikes..... Gues i've just dropped lucky !!

The R1 however is very different story, a shocking gearbox  :o

Hmmm...  Having never ridden anything newer than 1979, these comments make me wonder what is so different about modern bikes.   These SOHC Hondas were made in the seventies, which in my book makes them pretty modern; surely, at road legal speeds, they're not that different to new bikes are they?

Ha ha ha just read this thread... You woudn't want to jump on my R1 and thats a 1st generation one with carbs.... Scary stuff i can tell ya !!

I very much doubt it as i've checked the insurance database but is my old CB 500/4 still alive... Gold and black it was and i was only 17 when i owned it, i'm 49 now !!

Brings a tear to my eye.... I regret selling it to this day and i often dream of still owning it :'(

I've just registered on the US forum tonight and got into a short chat with UKPete who informed me of this UK site, so just want to thank him for pointing me in the right direction.

My name is Paul, i'm from Leek Staffordshire and today i bought a 1978 Honda CB750 f2 Supersport. Not mint by any means but quite tidy and road worthy which will have 12 months MOT when i collect it next weekend.
My intention was to buy an old Jap 4 as a Cafe Racer project which i still intend to do but as this bike is so good i'll just ride it this summer with the mrs on the back and enjoy it before stripping it and maybe in time i might just rtestore it to its former glory.

I have an R1 which will have to be sold as i never ride it much these days (to fast and i'm top old)

I test rode the Honda today and was surprised how well it handled for an old bike. OK it's sh*t slow by todays standards but the gearbox is so slick it puts modern bikes to shame especiall my R1 !!

Any way if you don't mind i'll hang around and hopefully pick up some useful info on my journey back in time  ;)
