Tricks & Tips / Re: brake caliper overhaul
« on: May 05, 2008, 01:12:01 PM »
Hi Phil,
Did mine myself, used some caliper and brake caliper, drum and rotor VHT paint from US Automotive, it seems to be fine on the calipers but has peeled on the master cylinder, probably due to me being ham fisted when filling up. the caliper has to be perfectly clean inside and out, all oxide removed. On the exterior I used my Dremel with a little abrasive brush, the inside was not too bad except the seal area which must be really clean for the seal to sit in. The threads I protected by inserting old bolts which was handy for hanging the caliper up while I sprayed it, the mating surfaces were masked off, I did this using masking tape put on over sized, then used a Stanley knife to cut around the caliper shape.

Hi Jez, all sounds a bit dodgy that, the F series frames and the K frames are different, so if you want another frame go for a K.

Hi Jez,
I bought some spare switches from eBay, they were the same as mine but from a 550.

Hi Jez, as Jonny says they sound like the same switches on the F1/F2, these are the switches from my 76 F1, I cheated and repainted them using my modellers airbrush, should have used orange instead of red though !

Can't help you there, have you tried eBay, or the US SOHC forum, or a machine shop ?

CB750 / Re: 900cc Big Bore Kits...worth the trouble ??
« on: January 21, 2008, 01:37:56 PM »
Converted my K1 to 900cc in the 70's and it made a big difference, the only thing that would put me off now is availability of spares, rings, head gaskets etc. If it was me I would look on eBay for a spare set of barrels, use them for the conversion and keep the 750 stuff as a fall back, also before you use the head gasket look for someone to make a spare using it as a pattern.

Hi Stevie, welcome, definately a good idea to take as many photos as possible during a strip/rebuild, here's some photos of my engine during painting, if you look closely you can see the paint I used. For a chain guard and luggage rack I'd look on eBay.

CB750 / Re: Honda 750 KO K1 which is which ??
« on: December 09, 2007, 11:35:07 AM »
Had a 1970 K0, most of my friends at the time had the same bike, all greeny/blue colour, if there were only 36 in the UK we had cornered the market in our little town. Early large side covers, coloured airboxes and headlamp brackets (ears), headlamps and different exhausts, I remember taking the baffles out of my K1 and they were different to the K2, the K0 had a bar across whereas the K2 had more concentric rings. Plus the K0 had the high wide and handsome bars.
My bike was different in that it had the push pull cable carbs for some reason, it was originally registered in Ireland hence the strange registration number COI3922.
I next bought a new (in 1972) K2, larger tail light, black airbox, chrome headlamp brackets and smaller side covers. After that I bought a 1971 K1, small side covers, painted headlamp brackets and headlamp and smaller tail light (as per the K0). If anyone ever restored it they would be confused as I fitted K2 headlamp brackets, larger tail light and as many other K2 parts as I could afford, so don't be fooled by old photos !
The 2 attached photos show my K0, pretty standard and my K1, the white one, in front is a friends K1 which is more representative apart from the Dunstall 4-2 (Dragon rally 19 plonk).

Cheers
