Hi, Oddjob.

Woe is me, old bearings are on their way to landfill. Didn’t think a well established swap out would be so difficult. Naively I assumed our man DS would, only sell stuff that fitted. :-\

Was trying to avoid the test fit hammering and swearing method.

All balls...here I come

The spacer is deeper than the width of a pound coin (can’t find my micrometers) by the way. Looks like a return to DS is in order.

Hi, Bryant. I get that, but 1mm. Can that be correct?

Wow. 1mm depth will render me short of threads? Why is there a spacer at all. I’m missing something here?

Thanks for the reply by way.

Has anybody used the taper head bearings from DS?. The QMP product includes a spacer, but no instructions. I presume the spacer is used on the lower yoke, under the bearing, but do I also need to use a seal of any kind which is not included in the kit.

I’ve trawled the site, but there doesn’t appear to be any definitive guidance on this specific topic.

If anybody could help I’d be grateful.

Cheers.

Thanks for the tips and compliments.

Hi, Ted. Yes neat and practical. I had this done on the VFR and they lasted well.

Just taken delivery of my frame, swing arm, stands, battery box and fork bottoms from Triple S of Bailden. 7 day turnaround and no issues whatsoever.

Absolutely resplendent in satin black. Fork bottoms in brushed satin silver looking like straight out of the factory.

Triple S are bike specialists, but also do other work. I’m really pleased with my items...try them

Photos to follow after the Rugby.

Correct, no rubber chain guard.

When’s the fire up?

Thanks all. Reason for strip...mainly curiosity. It’s been sat in a garage for 40 years and before I ride it hard I need to know what’s in it. To be honest the cam chain and primary are also in great nick.

The cases need painting too. They look absolutely sh£@e.

May be tempted to stop at this stage, but really need to understand how I can sort the cosmetics. Can’t see me putting the entire motor in the oven :-\

Apologies. If it’s ok I’ll take some better photos tomorrow when I extract the cam.

Thanks for the initial feed back.
