I went to the Donington Park Festival of Classics on Saturday and, with the exception of the usual nonsense of being turned away at the gate that led directly to the bike park and re - routed via the main entrance over gravel and mud, it was very good.

The standard and number of classic machines (mostly Japanese) on display was excellent (they claimed over 400) as was the display of classic race bikes (some 150, including an original Honda 250 six).

Equally interesting was the bike park, where many more classics were parked. Although there was a full day's racing as well, my brother and I became so absorbed with the displays that we only saw the one race and a parade!

I've used Footman James (VJMC multi bike policy) for many years now. They will accept modern bikes and classics on the same policy, providing that the number of modern bikes does not exceed the number of classics.

My bike garage is of proprietary manufacture, but made of cedar wood. It has windows, is sold as a garage and has been accepted in writing by them without problems. Before I moved five years ago, I had a brick - built garage and two wooden sheds for bike storage and these were also accepted without difficulty.

My Post Code has always been rural (Norfolk). I don't know whether that could make a difference?

CB750 / Re: CB750 MPG

Both my CB750 (K2, US Spec) and CB500/4 (K1, UK Spec) return around 43 mpg with normal use. I try, however to avoid town riding (not too difficult in rural Norfolk). On the CB500 I change up at 6,000 rpm as a rule and cruise at 5,000 - 5,500 rpm. Similar speeds are adopted similar with the CB750, although engine rpm is obviously lower.

Oddjob, there are Spitfire flights available from Biggin Hill (The Spitfire Experience) or, as pointed out earlier Boultbee Aviation. The cost is around £8,240 per hour (2015 prices). The quoted £2,750 gives you around 20 minutes of time in total, probably 15 minutes airborne. You could also, for less money, fly in a P51D (Mustang) with Boultbee or a Harvard for far less with either organisation. At the end of the flight, you are given an "in cockpit" DVD to take home!

The Spitfire Experience also offer a "Cockpit Experience" in the Spitfire and a Hangar Tour, this is relatively low cost and you can sit in an airworthy Spitfire as part of it.

I've been fortunate enough to fly in both aircraft and, after a lifetime in aviation regard it as one of the great experiences. The financial hit is, however considerable, although given operating costs of around £6,000 per hour, charges are probably more reasonable than they first seem.

I've flown a Tiger Moth and found it hard work. It is nothing like the modern aircraft that I am used in the handling and engine management departments (my own shortcomings, not the fault of the aircraft). Pleased to hear that you enjoyed your trip in the Tiger!

John, I've high hopes for Wales. Scotland and France have already delivered good trips this year! We are staying at "Radnor Revivals" as usual.

If you (or A.N. Other) would like to let me know number of rooms wanted, preferred dates etc. I will take a trip out to Breckland Lodge and perhaps a couple of other potential venues for accommodation and meals and then report back.

I have had a "Motobatt" on the CB750 for around 18 months now and am very pleased with it. The charging set - up is still original, i.e. 1972 K2, for the U.S Market.

I live quite near to DSS (around 40 miles away) and visit regularly. In terms of accommodation, I recommend Breckland Lodge (on the A11 at Attleborough, around two miles north of Snetterton). This hotel is usually modestly priced (except when events such as BSB are on), has a good number of rooms and ample facilities to eat. It is widely used by the BMW Club and other motorcycling organisations for gatherings.

If there is any interest in visiting other local attractions, Krazy Horse Customs are within 25 miles and are agents for Norton, MV, Victory, Indian and Morgan cars. Rideouts from as far afield as the Midlands come to them. They have a restaurant styled similarly to the "Ace Café" and I believe licensed by them, which I and a good few others try to visit weekly. There are also campsites that will accept groups of motorcyclists, however they are normally situated on the coast. I am friendly with a farmer who rides a BMW S1000 RR though and he might permit use of his land, as he sometimes has for the BMW Club, although this is not near to Breckland Lodge and facilities would be very limited.

If it helps, I am more than happy to do some research, although I will be riding in Wales from tomorrow for a week, so it will have to wait until after that!

Bryan that's right, you've jogged the memory! It was Nettleton Motorcycles.

John, thanks for that. DCJ was purchased through Mead and Tompkinson, WFH only a few months later due to a misdemeanour by a dealer whilst on road test (they replaced the bike free of charge to me, having broken an agreement that they would not road test it after performing the first service if roads were wet - they did and fell off!).

WFH was found by me at (I think it was called Fraser's) of Gloucester. The bikes were in short supply at the time and the dealer who did the damage had said that if I could find a bike, he would have it transferred to his stock for sale to me. In fairness, he was as good as his word.

Damage to DCJ was, if I remember correctly, confined to exhausts and a few minor marks on one side. It was repaired and kept by the dealer who damaged it as his personal transport for some time, and then sold as used.

All a very long time ago now, of course. In those days I lived in the area, as my brother and mother still do.

I had two new CB500/4's in the 1970's (1973 & 1974). Both were black with silver lines on the tank. I don't know if they're still around now (DCJ 75L & WFH 140M).

I always use TT100's on the old bikes, as I did in the 70's. The 750 still has Metzeler on from when I bought it though and these seem fine too.

I have a Davida set. Very well made, in metal and have worked for me for some 15 years.

I ordered a kick starter return spring from CMS for the 500/4 about two years ago, only to find on unpacking it that it was completely different to the one fitted and also the one shown on their parts drawing. Return was no problem and they identified a packaging issue, i.e. wrong spring, correct box.

I was offered a refund or the option to wait for a new part, which was the route that I took. In the meantime, John Wyatt sent me a used spring from a bike that he was preparing for track use, where the kick starter would not be needed.

The correct spring from CMS arrived about two weeks later, so I now have a spare in case it happens again!

I have, over the years bought quite a lot from CMS and found them always happy to talk over the telephone, with a named contact in case of problems after their returns procedure has been initiated.

CB500/550 / Re: Another clutch ?

I fitted 450 clutch plates to my 500/4 some years ago as I was told that it would reduce pressure at the lever, which it did. They were bought from DS and have proven to be very satisfactory.

Mick it's fine, there's no hurry. The bike is on the road for the next year with a fresh MOT (annual safety test) but the tester has pointed the damage to the lower yoke out to me as something to be aware of, so I would like to replace it when I am able.
