Not a problem Ash. I didn't know what ohms law was, its a long time since I last heard that in college. But thanks to the power of Google I am up to speed. Holding off on the job until your coil repair post appears. Cheers Ash.

Not sure how that table was compiled but the 400 number is wrong according to the link to the site. Latest is 30 licensed and 80 sorn.

There's interesting, didn't expect them both to be the same. They are both 2.7 ohms on the Fluke, retested on the cheapo and got 3 & 3.3 this time. Think I will bin the cheapo, it was only £3.99p with 10 litres of BP. Does that change them being okay to use on points. Cheers.

Thanks for that Ash. Cant say I understood it all though. ;D  Take your point about the cheap multimeter. My garage one is a cheapo but I have a fluke on the work van (couldn't be arsed getting it out), so will test them again with that. Will be interesting to see if the readings are different. Will post the new readings later. Cheers.

Unless you have a problem with gears leave the drum in there but as you are that far down at least a primary chain is a good idea, you can just see the marks where it has started to touch the oil gallery
Blimey Bryan, you must have eyes like a hawk.

If you put cap heads in go easy with the allen keys. You can get far more torque on an allen key than you can on a screwdriver, and you will easily rip the threads out of castings. Also, if you use stainless screws lubricate the threads with copperslip or a more modern anti seize paste or again the threads will tear out as you remove the screws. Best to put a small dab under the head as well. I nearly always use stainless cap heads with copperslip and I haven't had a problem yet. Fingers crossed. :-\

Not checked the resistance on the original coils yet, but the pair of Silvers replacements read 3.4 and 3.1 ohms. I am assuming this will be okay as I am running points. Is this correct. Cheers.

You would need to PM Kent400 about them. He's our resident clock expert.

Just had an email from my mate in Birmingham. He's been looking at the bike as well, and he has emailed the seller this morning. This is the reply:

Hi.The Bike was stored in a crate with the front fork section removed for ease of transport / storage. When it was acquired by us our technicians re-assembled the front section and they fitted the forks the wrong way round (very good on cars, bikes not their thing). The regional VJMC judging expert very kindly pointed this out to us much to our embarrassment. I have read some of the comments from some of the members on the forum and I can tell you that some people talk absolute nonsense. The only non original parts are the tyres, battery, float needle and seats and mirrors (we have the original left hand mirror which it came with). This bike is very, very authentic and would invite anyone to view and tell us otherwise. Thank you for your interest.Andrew.

That would explain the front end then. Mystery solved I suppose.
