CB350/400 / CB400 Wiring?
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:09:33 PM »
Hi,
I'm getting this 400 back together nicely but I'm a bit confused on this bit of wiring. I have this clump of wires hanging down in the airbox area with a rubber sheath around it. I assume from the position, the point wires go into the corresponding colour connections, but what connects to the green and black wire?

Thanks for all the tips. I have got it looking better now but not perfect. I'm keen to get the bike on the road for summer. So I'll attach it again next winter.

Cheers

Oh really?  :-[. I haven't done the flap wheel bit but I have spent hours on it working up from 200 grit to 1200 grit wet and dry. I haven't done anything with the gouges because they are so deep. I thought to file/rub them out will leave the case looking out of shape. I'll think about it ::)

I do have another case. It has been painted black at some point but when the paint has flaked of there is still some tarnishing  :'(

Misc / Open / Another Polishing Question
« on: May 04, 2013, 01:21:45 PM »
Hello again.

Please take a look at the generator cover below which I have started polishing up. I've been all over it with a range of wet emery paper grades and polished it with a 1st cut mop and brown compound. The trouble is I can't get rid of this corrosion/mottling. Any ideas anyone? Maybe it's not possible.

Cheers
Steve

OK. Thanks for the replies. I'm happy with the explanation that they are from another bike. I don't seem to be missing anything, except for the bracket which goes behind the near side front tank rubber. So I won't worry about them.

I should have given an indication of size. the straight one is about an inch long and the other one has about 1 1/2" between the two recessed holes. Too small for a silencer mount. More like a horn mount. I also had a couple of kickstarts which I think the seller said were off a CJ. So perhaps these are too.

Hi all,

Please can anyone identify these bits and tell me where they go? They were in one of my boxes for my basket case 400.

all the best

I put a few dabs of clear silicone instant gasket into the o-ring groove, leave it a minute to start setting. Then fit the o-ring and float bowl. No problem.

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't find any soft white sleeving but I went for some black sleeving off eBay. Fits and looks good.
Cheers.

CB350/400 / Braided Sleeving
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:33:02 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get some braided sleeving which looks like the origonal? I am talking about the sleave on the wires from the points plate, that runs round the clutch housing. Mine is split and it appears those wire are not available as a separate part. So I am thinking of repairing mine instead of forking out for a complete new plate kit. I have found some places selling black but not the white/silver/ocra or what ever it is supposed to be.

Cheers all
Steve.

Hi,

Has anyone tried or seen the Davis Silver pattern chainguard? Mine looks good nick but has been stove enamelled. I was going to get it chromed but the cheapest quote I've had is £70. So now thinking of going for a new pattern part.

Cheers
