mmmm thats interesting.  I was relying on cmsnl to give me the correct part number.  If someone else could confirm this then i will go ahead and order the part.  Thanks for the very usefull info oddjob,  no wonder i was having problems finding the parts if the part number was wrong.

i have been onto the cmsnl site and located the part through the "search model" section.  I selected my bike honda cb550 f1 uk 1976 and went through to the  transmition diagrams in order to find my part.    The part i require is number 34 on the diagram or part number 91002-283-000.  This part is no longer available on the website.  Is the part you have selected going to be the same part?   How did you come to that part number?   Thanks for you help and advice..

The shaft is the countershaft which has the spline for the final drive sprocket.  The bearing is refered to in the haynes manual as number 22 "ball journal bearing".
O/D 57mm  I/D 25mm.    Hope this identifies the part well enough.

CB500/550 / countershaft bearing?
« on: October 19, 2012, 04:00:42 PM »
Hello all.
Wow this rebuild is becoming time consuming but i'm still enjoying it.    Just found the countershaft bearing isn't looking to good and needs replacing so a quick call to david silver and i've drawn a blank.   Been online "cmsnl" who are showing this part is also unavailable.  Would anyone know where i might be able to find this part in order to continue my engine rebuild?

Thanks in advance.  jimbo

I don't have the genuine cb500 manual only a haynes manual.  Don't suppose you would have a picture or photo copy of page 49 by any chance!!

Well I've searched all over the crankcase and the crank and can't seem to find any letters or numbers anywhere. I've ordered a pair of green shells and I'll try one pair with some plastigauge and see what I get. Thanks for the kind advice.

Thanks for the advice.    I'll have a good clean of the crank and cases today in order to find these letters and numbers. It would appear that David silver only stock green shells. Anybody know a source for other sizes/colours?

Mmm ok thanks. I'll have a good look for the codes tomorrow and see what I can find. I noticed that David silver spares only stock one size which is the green colour code.

CB500/550 / Crankshaft shells?
« on: October 17, 2012, 05:25:02 PM »
Hi.  After stripping the engine down to thousands of parts im now inspecting everything and making a list of new parts to order.  Looking at the crankshaft shells they look a little scored and worn so thought i'd replace them while the motor is in bits.  I've measures the crankshaft and the journals seem good but not to sure on how to select the correct shells. I don't have an internal micrometer so measuring the case bolted together isn't really an option  I have ordered some plastigauge but this will be the first time using it so looking for some advice and helpfull tips.

« on: October 12, 2012, 04:54:18 PM »
Hello all.  Just started a rebuild on a 550f1 and cant find any info on the cylinder studs and con rod bolts.  Are they stretch bolts that are single use or can i get away with using them again?
