CB500/550 / Re: Slow jets
« on: September 05, 2011, 09:10:50 AM »
Four weeks!!!!! Ooops! More like 4-5 months since it last had a good run, what with the house move and work. Funny that the old Matchless has stood for the same time and that kicked in on the second kick and ran as sweet as anything:) (apart from spitting it`s chain off after a mile or so) but that was probably `operator error`.

So it looks like more split knuckles, trapped fingers, swearing and all of that....just to get the carbs off!!

Thanks guys, always there when needed. basketcase.

CB500/550 / Slow jets
« on: September 04, 2011, 01:09:58 PM »
Been for a run on the K3 today....first time that it`s run for ages. Didn`t go too well :( The revs were all over the place, stop, adjust to about 1200, pull away and they were back up to 4000 when I pulled in the clutch. Uphill was a struggle, having to change down a couple of cogs. Also there was fuel peeing out of one of the overflow tubes when I came back. The carbs were stripped, cleaned and balanced last year. I didn`t touch the jets, just left the whole lot soaking in carb cleaner and redex for a couple of weeks. Could it be that the slow running jets are still blocked? If so am I better off installing new ones or do I attempt to clean out the old ones? Has anyone bought from sisusconinc on ebay?
Sorry for the ammount of questions but carbs are not my favourite things to play with, I sold the last one because I couldn`t get it to run right >:(. Also all of my manuals and literature are still in storage so I`d` be doing this `blind`.
Cheers in advance basketcase.

Tell me about it!! Only been down here a month and have managed to find 3 different ways out of Taunton....none the correct way home! I live about 8 miles south of Taunton, 4 miles north of Wellington a small village called Milverton. For now anyway. Have bought a place in Oake but it needs a load of work so staying with the daughter for a few months. Oake is the next village so not too far away. There is a great little place for bike bits just outside of Taunton, near junction 25 of the M5, bitsforbikes I think it`s called. Helped me out when the split link broke on my Matchless. Hoping to meet up with Florence, who lives nearby.

Hi basketcase here, just moved down to Somerset and was wondering how many of you peoples are about this area? I`ve seen a couple of sohc 4`s through the village, both very nice. A 400/4 and a 500/4. Does anyone fancy showing me the local rideouts, nothing too fast (!) just a sunday meander through the lanes.
Cheers Nigel.

Hi Dave, the frame builder isn`t from Cheshire by any chance? A guy who lived up the road from me is named Dave and he builds custom frames, prefers the Honda engine to the Harley and runs a red chopped 750. Maybe a coincidence, but spooky!!!!

Cheers everyone, I now know the correct sizes to ask for instead of 3.25 and 4.00!! Don`t know whether I`m lucky or stupid (or both) but in 32 years of riding I`ve never kept a bike long enough to have to replace tyres! Avons it is then.

It`s a 1965 G2 CSR, the tiddler of the pack, but it goes well enough. Twas featured in Classic Bike guide 18 months back, front cover no less!!  It`s won 3 firsts, a second and a highly recommended at local shows (Cholmondeley, Capesthorne and Smallwood).I much prefer the comfort of the Honda though. It was my first `big` bike when I passed my test years ago so it was a no brainer when this one came along 12 months ago.
Thanks for the advice about the tyres, I`ll shop around and see.

Hi, can anyone suggest a decent set of tyres to fit on my 550 K3? What are the widest that will fit between the forks and swingarm? I use the `bike for the occasional sunday ride but admit to taking it to its limit quite often ;) I also own a Matchless which is used for `pottering` around on so the Honda gets to be abused a bit more. The ones fitted at the moment (Metzlers) have been on for at least 10 years and can be `interesting` on banding and white lines. A guy at work has suggested Avon Roadriders, does anyone have any experience with these? All suggestions gratefully received.
Cheers Nigel.

Hi all,
just got back from Stafford and ditto to all said. The guy from on all fours did me a deal on some mirrors, cheaper and better fitting than evil bay `bargains`. Couldn`t find a spare brake disc for my K3 but did buy some flat, Vincent style bars and weighted bar ends to go with the rear sets and Marving exhaust off captaindoughnut.
Have my eye on a 550 f on ebay, finishes tomorrow,

Hi Honda four,
ATF? Automatic transmission fluid? Do you use the same ammount as per the original?
Cheers Nigel.
