Good idea Ash....I worked in a factory in the 70's where if you wanted a bit of tubing, a few nuts and bolts or a bit of timber you paid 50P to the Works Manager's Secretary and she gave you a chit to take it out of the factory......it certainly stopped pilfering and the 50P's all added up to make a fantastic Christmas party for the children of the Employees.

Maybe another Forum heading could be developed to tot up the donations made due to the generosity of Members 'freebies'?

Is it 'Time of the year' for Lofts.......I have also just installed a new Loft Ladder.......two man job said the Instructions........ha said I.......not a problem said I........4 days later after much effing and jeffing 'twas finished! Yes you CAN fit the springs with the ladder down - despite what the instructions say.....but guess what....had to take it all down again and fitted the springs from inside the loft space. talking to my Builder a few days later he told me how his Opo tried to fit the springs on his own.....spring snapped back at it's extremity and sliced right through his palm and fingers. Very, very nasty injury which kept him off work for a long time - GULP. One for the memory bank methinks!

With BITSAS words from the past ringing in my lugholes..........donation made.

I couldn't agree more with the earlier posts.....we all benefit tremendously from our Forum so we need to chuck in regular donations.........or like BITSA, one day it may no longer be with us. RIP.

Sterling work Roy........the photos don't do this machine justice but as I saw it in the flesh a few weeks ago, I have to say that it is real credit to your skills and talent, and I would be proud to own it. I can't say fairer than that. I was also impressed with both your CB750F's, but the CB350F is just stunning.

Lets hope your main obstacles are now over and the remainder of the build goes smoothly.

Could you advise which Simoniz paint you used on the crankcases as that's how I want my CB750K4's to look.

Looking forward to the next batch of photees.

I have a bent T120 Top Yoke.......but I could never sell it on without advising the Buyer that it needed work to straighten it.

Well that's how I aim on getting into Heaven (cos I need all the help I can get I reckon).

LOL.

When I worked for London Underground Projects.....we always said that 'no question is stupid' in our Team Meetings.........and that seems to be the stance here on this Forum. If you don't ask....you don't find out!

There is an abundance of very clever, experienced and helpful members on this Forum and I'm sure that you will enjoy the wit and wisdom in the coming years, so welcome and good luck to you.

Piccies of your bike/ parts/ rebuild are most welcome......

The Seller obviously won't admit that the mistake is his.........they never do.....but why not ask if you can return it for an exchange and you'll split the postage (or you'll pay it if you are really desperate).

Good luck.

NOELIA......what did it cost you to ship your tank and sidepanels to Menno.....and what were his shipping charges back to you?

That should give other Forum Members a rough idea.

MENNO......if you are prepared to offer a discount to Forum Members.....and this helps to offset the P & P charges, I could see you picking up lots of work from here as the quality of your paintwork is obviously appealing.

Most of us are not looking for a speedy turnaround, but are more concerned that the preparation is first class and the finished parts are as good as the hard work and time we put in on the rest of the bike. As a Painter, it would be ideal if you have a number of jobs on the go so your 'downtime' is reduced.

Like Ash.....I agree that its great for Suppliers like yourself to involve themselves on the Forum so welcome and thanks for your input.

CB500/550 / Re: Registering a USA import
« on: October 04, 2015, 04:37:20 PM »
My old memory tells me that anything registered after 31 July 1972 MUST have reflective Licence plate(s).......I regularly see much newer and very expensive bikes carrying the old style black ali plates with the raised numbers polished....of course they look good but the owners don't realise that an over zealous member of HM Constabulary might impound their bike and get DVLA to confiscate it.

Of course it would never happen.........but would you take the chance just to make your £20K Harley or Victory look a bit 'older'?

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Wheel builders.......
« on: September 30, 2015, 12:05:07 AM »
Can anyone recommend a good wheel builder.......chrome rims, stainless spokes for my CB750K4?

I have used CWS in the past but just want to see if there are any others who Forum members have used.

Preferably in the North West but happy to post in UK.

Thanks........

CB500/550 / Re: Fuel petcock repairable?
« on: September 28, 2015, 02:06:03 PM »
Just measured the Petcock on my 1974 CB750K4 US model. I cannot see it being different from the 500/550.

The Outside Diameter (O/D) is 5.5mm.
The wall thickness is 0.6mm.
The tube protrudes into the tank for a distance of 64.6mm (at the longest point - its angled).

Cannot measure how far into the body of the Petcock it is inserted as it's brazed in - but if you allow 25mm you won't go wrong and can cut it off later to give you the 64.6mm length you need when finished.

Measured using my cheapo Digital Caliper.
