Misc / Open / Re: Colour scheme suggestion for my tank & side panels?

I looked at the Youtube film... that is not candy paint.
Ok, you can write whatever you want on the paint bucket but this is a simple 1 stage metallic blue paint.

Agree totally, a Candy scheme is almost a clear coat with colour in it applied usually over a light metallic base coat most common silver or gold. The effect is for the colour to be translucent. Cant see how applying over 3 thick coats of paint on a plain black base coat could be classed as Candy

Looks like it was 'Shiny Orange' on the other thread, best bet is RS Bike Paints, easy to use and apply and if covered with a 2K clear coat will laugh at E10 petrol

I have only been out a couple of times on the 550 at night Ken. The majority of roads around here have no street lights and often no cats eyes. Riding my GL1000 which still has Halogen fitted (case is a little too tight to take the P43T bulbs without some work) the difference as I said is worlds apart. I think the colour of the light helps a lot as it seems to penetrate the dark better, I really cant see any difference in beam pattern and I dont seem to be upsetting other road users.

No night time rain riding as yet which was my biggest issue with the old setup so not sure what difference there will be.

Power wise I have the lights on dipped all the time now and the power system is coping without any issues, I would have 'worried' before and just used the position light during daylight.

I dont think I would go back to Halogen. I will need to alter the connectors on the GL1000 as the P43T bulbs are a little deeper and foul the casing but I will do it when I get a chance.

I followed Ken's  lead and bought the same LED, worlds apart from any Halogen and uses less power

Wow that is some transformation, a lot of patience and hard work to get them that good. It is immensely satisfying inst it to take something so badly corroded to what looks like a new part

Happened to me in 1979 on a GL1000, engine cut dead. For the life of me to this day I cant imagine how it could happen to both coils at the same time. Dad towed me home which of course would never be allowed now. Local Honda dealer only had CB400 coils in stock and as I needed the bike for work I had to jury rig the and make do, went on that way for the next two years before I bought new coils.

I bought exactly the same set of gauges a couple of years ago and tried them on my freshly restored GL1000 and got 80 PSI on each cylinder (should be around 150 > 160 PSI). Bike starts on the button from cold and pulls like a train, I dont bother using them anymore.

Dont get me started on Lancaster's, magnificent aircraft and we all owe it so much. If you can join Just jane's restoration fund 'the Rivet Club' hopefully she will be flying again in 7 years or so.

In the meantime here is my 1/10th scale model BIII (Special) ED932

... Audis in particular.

Oh Crap!!

Had a chance to get my car done, admittedly it was a lot more difficult to do large panels as the coating has to be applied evenly and polished off straight away. I think the conditions have to be just right which is dry, overcast and warm - really difficult in Scotland.

This is 3 coats of the polish and two coats of the curer after a thorough clean, strip and machine polish, the pictures again dont do it justice its come out really nice -

...Surprisingly it did not resist tree sap very well. I've seen holes in car roofs that went through the factory transit wax, paintwork & metal caused by Seagull Droppings!...

There are not many coatings that will withstand the Ammonia in bird droppings for any length of time. I live next to the sea so I do need protection from sand blasting and salt erosion. Early signs are good with this mornings fine rain sitting on the surface of the paint and not soaking in but time will tell -

Wow! Can't justify 60 squid unfortunitely

Agreed it does seem expensive. I can justify it though perhaps I look at it in a different way. This is my hobby I am not just polishing my bikes and car for the sake of it, it is more about the pleasure and satisfaction of achieving something and at the same time protecting my prize possessions. I always think to myself that some people will spend a lot more than £60 on a 90 minute football match or a night out on the town so I am happy to spend the money.
