I stand corrected Lobo I am wrong you are right - I've just re-checked my old loom (again) in a few different places- it has a mixture of 3.9 mm and 3.5 mm male & female connectors!

Looking at the corrosion and insulating sleeves I think many of the originals have been replaced with 3.9 mm - a long time ago as they are green inside!

I'll be ordering some 3.5's now for when I connect the peripherals to the new loom.

This photo is not of my bike but shows that they are close but not touching - the memory in the cables to the solenoid might just push it to the right too much?

Nice looking workshop you have there ST1100 I see you are in living in Wein - Osterreich.

I was born in Klagenfurt in 1948 I came to the UK with my Mother Paula when I was 5 years of age. My brother & I still have family who live in Klagenfurt - I have only returned twice to my homeland once in 2003 and again in 2014 to take my mothers ashes to the Church where she was Baptised in Maria Rain.

It's a beautiful country - but wow is it expensive as a tourist I guess Honda bike parts are expensive as well - sorry if I have hijacked this post  a tad.

... just beware that the old Honda bullet connectors are smaller than what is commonly sold as ‘replacement bullets’. Off the top of my head I don’t know the specs.... perhaps someone can chip in with advice / best supplier here?

I think these were the ones I used 3.9 mm they do the female side as well. My old wiring loom is a bit of a mess it had the later 4.0 mm connectors in some places that had been made to fit by crushing the female side on the loom to make a contact!

Think the engine was based on the Black Bomber engine.

Back in the late 1960's I had a driving job for a car dealer in Derby they use to source new Honda S800 Sports cars from a within group dealer in Chesterfield.

I picked up several new Coupes and Roadsters over a 12 month period and had to drive them back to Derby. The drivers who took me to Chesterfield didn't want to drive them as they were so low and tiny and difficult to get out of!

A very lively and revy engine but the owners had lots of electrical glitches caused by water getting into the wiring loom connectors - sadly the bodywork used to deteriorate quite quickly.

not been on the floor and yes thread gone on bolt and case not a happy chap i spent 8k building this bike with all new genuine parts that took 10 years to find now i,m trying to find some engine cases with the same letters on the bottom case so i dont have to work out and find some new shells again
Just reading this makes me anxious about the unknown happening. As others have said fix what you have if possible Trigger will no doubt have experience of such disasters and a way forwards.

I'd like to think my inevitable engine rebuild could be done in that budget!

I am in the vunerable group having Asthma  and Chronic lymphatic leukaemia So we have tried to be very careful from the very start of all this. But as with all things and the passage of time vigilance drops and you tend to get a little complacent about the small things that keep you safe. No we haven't lived any sort of semi normal life this year really. We have been able to get away in the Motorhome a couple of times through the summer taking a couple of bikes with us and still been able to isolate to a very large extent. Where or how we have caught this we have no idea but we have. I am sure things will only get better for us as time goes on and a full recovery will be made in the due course of time.
It is amazing how much simple well wishing messages pick you up. Stay safe and thanks all.   ;) :)

I had to Google Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia - it's a condition I have never heard of. Being in remission from Hodgkin's Lymphoma since 1990 I thought I knew all about similar conditions. You are clearly a born survivor / fighter have a great Christmas.

Ouch that sounds bad hope the thread in the engine case is okay and it's just the bolt that's been hydraulically expelled.

First day at college doing my apprenticeship new teacher walks in.

‘Hello, I’m Mister Eatwell, I’ll just write that on the board for you’
He went to the board and wrote ‘BASTARD’

Turned out he was a really nice bloke.

Like his strategy! 👍👍

Cheered me up in my COVID isolation that did! You can't teach common sense - in a previous job, I was a careers adviser and the number of people I saw who had degrees but no common sense was amazing
It's debatable if there is such a thing as common sense at least when I was in training its what we came to accept. We redefined it as a group identity by way of shared life experiences.  Certainly it was my experience that graduates who had never worked until they left university were at a disadvantage in terms of real life experiences. Likewise when I was at Univetsity students who had come from Secondary Schools like myself were quite different from those from public schools who were relatively immature in terms of life experiences.

Unless you can guarantee to get every last tiny bit of old fluid out dont use dot5.

That's why I am a big fan of dot 5.1 it's not overly expensive with lower hygroscopic spec plus it mixes with everything except dot 5.0.

I've a "standard issue test" for clutch wear and ability to transmit:-

Get it pulling in third gear with throttle quite wide and give the clutch lever a little "ping" just so it lets the revs rise. It should immediately be able to grab and hold the torque as the clutch plates and springs try to bite again.

If it won't hold that then it's most likely too worn.

But you also need to check all the operating mechanisms are free and adjusted well first.
I like that simple test with explanation.
