Excellent read on this project. Reminds me of my CB750F2 Special from a few years ago

I replaced the complete points assembly on my CB750F2 back in the late 70s & spotted that where the blue & yellow wires attached to the laminate back plate of the BB ignition that there was apossibilty that they might come loose. So I loctited the connection so that it would never come undone with vibration  ;)

I use Brasso wadding. When it goes dry in the container I add a squirt of WD40 & it's just like the fresh stuff. Once the polished part is dry it buffs up nicely  8)

Unfortunately, the engine has still not been rebuilt as other projects have got in the way.

It would be good to get it done as I now have 6 bikes in the shed & not enough space to work out there unless I move 2 bikes outside. Not a good idea in the Winter weather.

I found this one of the green CB125s that I scanned out of the '76 Honda catalogue years ago

Then there was the CB750K6

These scans were from a '75 catalogue

I've got the other scans somewhere on my hard drive if anyone thinks they'll be worth scanning?

CB750 / Re: Honda Britain / PRR Bars

I had a set of Jota bars on my CB750F2. Multi adjustable but once set in a comfortable position I took out the middle section & welded the outer sections to the middle section.

I'm not sure if the CBX550F2 air fork caps would fit the CB550/750F2 43mm fork legs (as the CBX550 forks are) but after I had a prang on the modified 750F2 the forks got a bit bent, so I bought some fork legs from a CBX1000ZA & they fitted those forks ok.

But when I had the engine running for the first time ever in my hands, it smoked quite a bit. So, out with the engine as the cylinder head can't be removed with the small space above the cam cover

...and off with the cylinder head & barrel

...to show badly scored piston skirts & bores

So, having priced up oversize pistons/rings/circlips/rebore, it came to more than the kit from ebay which included a new barrel. But i'm having one or two issues with the kit, which need to be resolved before I can finish rebuilding the engine

Such diddy little pistons  :)

...especially when compared to a piston ring from a Yamaha R1

So. Handbook & gasket kit ready for the next stage

I fitted the OEM shocks from my CB750F2 to my commuter CB550F1 & it made quite a differance to the handling & extra ground clearance

At one time I fitted some CB900FZ shocks to my 550F1 but they were too long so went back to the 750F2 shocks

Hey yoshi what lenghts were the 750 & the 900 shocks ? I'm guessing you never did anything to the front end to compensate for the higher rear end  ? I've got 14.5 inch Hagons for my 500, but still to get my act togeather and reassemble it after poweder coating. What issues were you getting with the 900 shocks ?

I'm not sure what the lengths of the CB900 or 750F2 shocks were, but it made it a very worthwhile modification as I was regularly running out of ground clearance with the standard shocks.

As for the front end of the modified 750F2 forks, I added some CBX550F2 air caps which, with about 5 psi pumped in, gave me a slightly better front ride height to compensate for the longer shocks.

With the CB900FZ fitted temporarily to the 550F1 it was far too high at the back, which didn't give me any tankslappers, but it did cause the bike to tip into corners much quicker as the CoG had been pushed forward quite a way. So I partially compensated by adding some useless imperial sockets above the fork springs, which kept the front end up & reduced the SAG measurement.

I'm sure that someone on here with a CB900FZ...like Steve...would be able to measure the length of the standard shocks. likewise, someone with a standard 750F2...like UKPete...may well be able to measure the shocks on his bike for you.

I've measured my koni shocks & they're 12.5" between centres & are set at their shortest setting by adjusting the top mount locknut.

Nice pic Steve...but the CB750K had differant side panels to the era of the CB900FZ

I very nearly bought one of these bikes back in '79. Sort of glad that i spent the time & money modifying my 750F2 instead...
