Small point Richie. The post I was referring to was a 400 rebuild, due to a night shift I managed to wander into the wrong section! Interesting with good general principles but not technical. I will now return to my 400 corner.

Cheers,
Greg

Ouch, I feel your pain. As you say strip and assess and take the opportunity to replace all your oil seals while it’s apart. Hopefully you’ve found the good Nurses rebuild thread, a great starting point for the rebuild. At least you won’t be bored this winter.

Fingers crossed for you,
Greg

Thought I would stir up this old subject again, I know a lot is personal opinion but came across these people and thought I would canvas a few opinions.

Have been internet searching but can not find anything definite about them but hear that some major oil producers sell high grade oil bulk which is then repackaged in the buyers cans. As it has the JASO MA2 spec, £21 with free delivery for 5 Lts I thought it might be worth using given the 3,000 mile oil change schedule.

I’m hoping to make the day. So any recommendations for a preshow breakfast location? Would be good to meet for a bacon sandwich and cuppa.

Which explains why the Mersey runs through Liverpool because if it walked it would be mugged.

Thought I was one up on my son by sending him the details. No he used it all last weekend at the Boomtown festival to meet up with friends. Made life a lot easier on a massive spread out location.

Don’t worry I’m not after you on behalf of a secret government dept.

No this is about letting people know where you are when you are out and about enjoying your two wheel trip and you come across an incident, cause we are safe riders and don’t have incidents!

Up to now I had OS Locate (Ordnance Survey) App which gave a good old fashioned Northing and Easting grid reference as well as a built in compass. However seen a BBC news article about an App called What3words, that defines a 3 meter box with the use of words. It’s free and may well be worth having it sitting on your phone just in case.

Cheers all,
Greg

Humour / Getting to the top of the tree.
« on: August 15, 2019, 08:25:14 AM »
A turkey finds his ability to fly greatly impaired and can’t even fly to lowest branches of a nearby tree. Bemoaning his inability to fly he he shouts at the world, much to his surprise he hears a voice behind him. It’s a pedigree bull chewing the cud. “Here’s some advice” says the bull, “If you eat my poo it will aid you in your quest”. “Yeah, right”,says the turkey and wanders off.

The next morning having woken in an even bigger pit of misery, with no one around and nothing to lose the turkey tries the advice. The next morning he successful gets airborne and makes the lower branches of the tree. Delighted with his progress flies down to eat more poo. The next morning progress is even better, he gets halfway up the tree. Loving the results he immediately flys of in search of the the freshest offerings from the bovine advisor.

The next days dawns crisp and blue, three quick steps and he is airborne again, effortlessly reaching the top of the tree to view the wide country. Perched on the uppermost branch he puffs his chest looking magnificent and proud. A passing local farmer spots the magnificent turkey sunning himself in the morning sun, shoots him and takes him home for dinner.

The moral of this story is that you can rise to the top of the tree on bullshit but it won’t keep you their.

The shaft measures up at 19.99mm so was thinking of getting a standard plain bearing 15mm wide and trimming the excess once fitted. Don’t suppose  ttr400 you could confirm the bearing outside dimension, is it 23mm?

Thanks,
Greg

Had a session with the micrometer and the shaft measures up at a fraction under 20mm and using a digital calliper I think the outside diameter of the bush will be 23mm but this is a bit of an estimate, can anyone give me a more precise figure?

Ok, have the same problem. So can anyone tell me the dimensions of the bush required so I can try and source a replacement.

Thanks,
Greg

Ignore the first question. Having sat and looked at the diagram I asked myself the question, could the first gear have been put back to front. Question answered, doh.  :-[

Ok, after a bit of workshop time I have a question or two.

First up with the gears set in neautral, brass bump showing and all looking as per 42.8c in the Haynes manual. If I rotate the main shaft the counter shaft rotates as well, should there not be a disconnect? I have not stripped the gears just washed and examined. This brings me to the second question. The counter shaft bottom gear has excessive radial play, I assume bushes are available and it’s a press out press in job.

Thanks,
Greg
