Project Board / Re: The rebirth of Lazarus
« on: November 25, 2023, 06:25:41 PM »
yes Ken I got a new one to make sure. I seem to have sorted it, i turned the main adjuster fully in and left it in that position instead of backing it off as per manual. Also the threaded adjuster at handlebar end was a little tight and was snagging on the nylon inner cable so filed that down, still think the plain cables are better. Had to walk away as getting frustrated today, I will return to battle tomorrow!

Lazarus continues to resist, still not sure what to do about the tank, was looking at the ones on ebay from India as brand new is tempting, has anyone any experience of them? Still having a problem with the clutch operation, originally fitted an OEM from Silvers but caused a problem releasing as the nylon liner was damaged. tried one from ebay which worked ok but was far too long so got another silvers one and still having trouble. Before fitting to bike but fitted to operating mechanism in cover it seems to operate correctly but when i fit to engine things seem to lock up and i cant get any adjustment on cable. I had loosened off the main adjuster on chain cover and pushrod is new, everything is greased up and free. Its very frustrating, any ideas?

working on the petrol tank, rubbed down to bare metal and primed. Was de rusting the inside but has revealed a hole in the bottom of tank. A bit cheesed off cos it looked solid so will have to decide how to proceed, repair or replace, damn it.

tried the heat gun method, did not work and made the plastic very soft. Having some other issues, see my Lazarus thread.

A few ideas to try, thanks. I did have to rub it down with abrasive as was quite rough (as most things were on Lazarus) so will experiment and report.

CB500/550 / plastic chainguard renovation

My chainguard off Lazarus was a bit battered so sanded it down to a reasonable smoothness but has left the plastic quite dull even when polished with plastic dressing. I don't really want to paint it so has anyone got any tips?

Usually not a fan of custom bikes but that is sweet and old school looks. A bargain.

They can get bent if dropped at some point, also designed to rest against the kick-start.

I had a powder coated hub on one of my 550s and it caused fitting problems because of the thickness of the paint. Ceracote might be better.

CB500/550 / sticker locations
« on: November 06, 2023, 01:36:41 PM »
Exiting times with Lazarus, putting the caution stickers on the frame that I got from Piki. Would like the correct places to put them, I have the helmet lock ones, and the battery caution plus the exhaust warning. Photos would be good. I do also have the helmet warning but don't think I will fit it. Thanks to Piki for supplying all the decals including the tank stripes, and also to Bryan for another sticker which will be revealed later!

CB500/550 / Re: Left side handlebar switch question?
« on: October 29, 2023, 03:40:11 PM »
remember my post earlier in this thread, the sidelight and rear lamp are powered by the brown wire NOT the brown/white wire which powers the speedo/tach illumination. so when the handlebar switch is on P the brown wire is energised (from black wire I think) then travels back to the ignition switch TL1 terminal then bridges to TL2 which sends the lecky to the front sidelamp and rear lamp. when the park position on the ignition switch is engaged it connects the two tl terminals directly therefore lighting sidelamp/rear lamp without ignition being on. It took me ages to work it out on mine as it is not how you would expect it to work
