I used the silver, which I think is what the original was.
It also comes in gold or black.

Honda lettering is easy to add and for my money well worth the effort.
Templates from Piki on this forum or eBay, I used Rust-Oleum Fabric Paint (£4.99 at Homebase).

If you're feeling brave you could do what my brother did.

You get a spare left fork lower, machine away anything that doesn't look like a brake mounting part then get those parts welded to a spare right fork lower. There must have been some jiggery-pokery to get mounting holes etc in the right places but it worked. The fork lowers were then painted black. You then use the same caliper and brackets as on the LHS with the caliper assembled the other way around on the support so the body is on the outside. His bike has alloys fitted, front one possibly off a Yamaha (on his bike parts could be off anything; rear disk caliper (yes, rear disk too) is from an Enfield I believe) but the disk hole spacing must be the same as he has the Honda disks fitted, drilled for good measure. I'm pretty sure he said he could have fitted twin disks to the standard wheel using longer bolts.

Of course you then have to sort out pipework and a larger master cylinder but after what has already been done that is probably the easy bit! This is the only picture of the bike I can find.

Andy,
Just had a look at a [probably scrap] carb I have.
Sequence of parts looks correct to me, washer between spring and plastic bush is metal, probably plated.
I replaced needle valves using parts from a Cruzinimage kit which many others seem to have also used.
As I recall they were quite a snug fit, twisting gently got them to seat where they should.

Thanks Steve. Now I know what the button does.
Looks like sticking with email is the best bet then!

Site Feedback / FAQ / How to... / Images in Personal Messages
« on: May 10, 2015, 06:16:35 PM »
A couple of times recently I have had to ask members for an email address so I can send pics when replying to a 'Desperately Seeking' post.
Only today I saw a post where someone else wanted an email address to send pics so I am not the only one.
On the New Message page when sending a PM there is an 'Insert Image' option but I have no idea what to do with it (there is no Attach option, not that I have found anyway).
Can someone explain please, or is it perhaps better for any reason to send pics via email anyway? Thanks.
Chris

I know that on the 400 Honda used two different types of ignition setups - TEC and ND.
A quick search by part number seems to show the same points plate was used on many SOHC fours.
I don't know what the differences or compatibilities are, the electronic ignition sold by DS says it is only suitable for use with the TEC ATU.
May need to be aware and get the right one.
Coincidentally I have an ND setup (complete points plate and ATU) on eBay at the moment, if that's any help.

John, I may be able to help. Have sent you a PM.

Are you talking about the shafts or the kickstart lever itself?
Shafts I'm pretty sure are not interchangeable - engine internals look different.
Kickstart levers look to have the same diameter splines but G5 unit is about an inch longer so would probably foul the air box.
Are you looking for the parts?

CB500/550 / Re: Seat cover
« on: April 25, 2015, 10:51:32 AM »
I got the cover for my 400/4 from Tight Fit Seats on eBay. They had a deal including cover, strap and studs.
Quality seems fine, cover went on OK even though I have no experience at this sort of thing.
New strap fittings came from DS as originals were corroded.
Only slight problem was that studs have solid centre, one near seat latch needed shortening to clear latch.
They have a variety of covers but all come without the Honda logo. I ordered a stencil from here which I have yet to use:

CB350/400 / Re: Another gauge freshened up - thanks to Kent400

Thanks Simon, that is really helpful.
My tacho is currently in bits after cleaning. I was going to reassemble it today but have found the paint on the
case needs a bit more work so will do it shortly and try this technique when I do.
I didn't replace the face - the red line isn't too faded and I couldn't find a good source of replacements.
Yours looks like a new speedo face, can you recommend a supplier for future reference?

I am trying to work out from the picture how you are crimping the bezel ring back in to position. Any tips please?
