CB350/400 / Re: Rear tail light, can they be taken apart

From memory Dave, I think it's the bulb holder which holds it all together and as you say pressed together during manufacture.  I'll have a look better tomorrow but perhaps the old bulb holder could be removed with a Dremel and a separate holder - the type that had claws, pressed in after chroming.

Oops,
I also meant the NC750! Think that's the same core engine from the 750 Forza and everyone says it's half a Honda Jazz engine, I'm not sure that's quite true.  The NC has a great amount of luggage space  and it's more of a conventional bike for folks who shy away from scooters.  After the 1500 Wing, the NC was a doddle but I still prefer my Forza overall.

As Johnny says Matt, always exciting times when you are intending adding another steed to the stable. Although I'm 7 years nearer the skip than you are, I finished with 35 years of GoldWings early last year and wondered 'where next?'  I looked at the NT and also the 750 Forza and eventually decided that as Christine no longer goes on the bikes that a 350 Forza would be adequate.  How wrong I was! It's FAR more than adequate, it's relatively light, very economical, rides like a small GoldWing, has oodles of luggage space and deceptively quick for it's engine size and I'm hopefully using it later this year for a tour of Germany and Austria.  I've already done 3500 miles on it since late May and have used it in most weathers (not on ice and snow). It's also SOHC!
Like you, I've still got my other bikes for a blast with gears to play with and for shows and meets but the Forza is such a capable tool - At my age I no longer feel I have anything to prove and don't mind being sneered at by GS 'Adventure' bike owners.

Hi Steve,
I've also got fed up with this stuff when searching, so now it's New Year - no resolutions from me except not putting up with things we might be able to change, we could all on this forum report this particular spammer.  Would you want to start a Moderator post to encourage this?

Out & About / Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2024
« on: January 01, 2024, 04:01:33 PM »
Hi Julie and Graham,
About the same here today, a chilly 6 degrees, glad I fitted heated grips!  Out over the Birsay moor and nearly got hit by a male Hen Harrier.  No bikes other than push-irons out and a few folk emptying dogs.  A couple of pics at the Brough of Gurness looking towards Eynhallow.  Mucky wet roads and a gritter passed me in the opposite direction, thankfully not gritting at the time.  At least we've been out!

Morning Ken,
Depends how much pampering you are used to!  Accommodation ain't cheap anywhere these days but there are self catering places too.  Obviously depends on the season as some places just shut if not enough interest.  Christine and I went to the Christmas markets in Cologne recently but as it was quite icy in the days before, we decided to stay at an hotel in Kirkwall the night before the flights to shorten by 20 miles, the distance to the Airport - I think we paid about £85 for a double with no breakfast (very early flight)
Riding up to Scrabster puts you into some great scenery and biking roads and it's nearer at the other side if you are staying in the West Mainland (of Orkney) as we do.

Lots of stuff to google:
Skara Brae
Italian Chapel
Kirkwall Cathedral
Churchill Barriers
Outer Isles Westray, Rousay, Shapinsay

Hi Ken,
And a very Happy New Year to one and all.  There are 3 ways of crossing to Orkney - I prefer the Scrabster to Stromness route (90 mins) but there is also Aberdeen to Kirkwall (7 hours) or Gills bay to St Margaret's Hope (about an hour) run by Pentland Ferries. The first two are operated by Northlink Ferries.  There are pros and cons with all.

Some prices for Northlink

We can get a discount for 'Friends and Family' if there's only a very small number of travellers and I don't think they offer that in high season.

It would be great to see a few of you up here and apart from great scenery, roads, good food and drink plus lovely folk, there are many toy cupboards to visit.

Just googled the population of Shetland & it brought up a map showing some odd place names including Twatt amazed there is a population of around 23,000 never imagined you had Taxis but knew there were few trees.
Fantastic roads, scenery and people in Shetland Ted and just like Orkney, even electric light!  Simmer Dim and Shetland Classic Motor Show should be on your bucket list!  Twatt here in Orkney too - even worse, an Upper Twatt!  You folks in Englandshire have Peover, Littlehampton and Slaughter as well as Cridlin Stubbs and Tolpuddle, so we're even.

A bit of a divergence from your original post but might throw some light on importing stuff.  Someone on here might know if the system has changed recently but we frequently bought wine from Germany on our many trips.  Covid came, so no trips and we ordered direct from our friend's vineyard - paid carriage but no duties.  The B....T word then came along and we were stung on the next order with £94 duties.  Ordered more last September (it evaporates with the Orkney heat you know) Postie delivered case with 18 bottles and no duties to be paid.
Question is - has the system changed as I can't believe they just missed this consignment and if it has changed, will it apply to bike bits ordered from Europe?

Hello from Orkney!
Not sure but you might be the first from Shetland - Steve, the moderator will soon put me right (or wrong). There might be a 750 for sale here in Orkney - not perfect but needs normal re-commissioning after not being used for a while.  It belonged to one of our Vintage Club members who has sadly passed away.  He took a red Simca 1100 to your last Classic Show and always had lots of bikes at our own Vintage Rallies.

Thanks David,
Yes, it's a bit raw for all concerned but I'm certainly looking forward to reading more of Sean's epic trip and we can all follow him these days with Googly Earth and the like.
Lots of the South Lakes VJMC folk used to meet up with the Nab's Head (Lancs) crowd years back for rides out and shows - not sure if that still happens?

Thanks for sharing that Julie,
I hope there's a book to be read soon - better than 'Itchy boots' for me anyway 'cos he's on a classic Honda.  A new Ted Simon in the making.

Have a great New Year folks - don't wait, DO IT NOW!!  My fellow Super Cub rider and adventurer Doug passed away on Christmas eve, so we never got to do our German trip.

Hello and a very warm welcome from another 350/4 owner.  You might already be aware but lots of 400/4 parts are the same - look for the '333' in the part numbers for 400.  I have 350, 400 and 550 fours but I think the 350 is still the best of the bunch - for my needs at my age anyway!  Shout if you need any info - lots of that on this very helpful forum.

Hi Johnny,
The 550 F1 wheel rims - original intention was to get Prestige to work their magic on them - they have done quite a few sets for me over the years but their turn around is 6 months and I would lose precious riding time.  I bought a pair of DS DID rims with that bloody awful script on the side so that I can keep riding it.  Might then send the originals for re-chroming but life's getting shorter!  Even the supposed 'Genuine' DID front rim from DS has that side script - they can't explain the difference and I didn't want to pay the difference for something I might only use for a short time.
