do comstar wheels need a rim tape or band fitted......I have just removed the old tyre from my 1979 750 f2 ready to fit a new one and didn't find any rim tape there........should there be ?.....am I wrong in thinking that they are just for spoked wheels and are not required.
cheers Terry

those 2 centre plug caps would certainly give you the problems you mentioned,....those were the 2 culprits that gave me grieve,...in fact I am looking at them now,....one has 2 cracks at the top under the rubber hat and is burned black, and both have corrosion on the screw connecters,...

Steph,..after checking the plug caps and leads for sparking and you find that all is well in that department, why not do as Jamesh suggests and do a impedence test,....I have just done mine and it took less than 5 minutes and the results are.
---Plug caps=5.2 kohms.. ---coils with plug caps off=14.1kohms.
please note the coils are old ones but the caps are new.
another point to mention but you probably already know,...connect your meter to the plug leads to 1 and 4 cylinders, and then to 2 and 3 cylinders.
hope this helps,....cheers terry

+2 on that. Worth pulling the plug caps and putting a multi-meter across the plug caps individually and across the pair of ht leads from each coil to check the impedence. Should be 5kohm caps and 15 on the coils
thank you for that usefull information james, I can make good use of that. cheers,.. terry

Quote Steph,..(Has anyone experienced anything like this)?
"yes I have, on my cb750 f2" but it was related to the spark plug cabs which were shorting out badly and was only spotted by my son after numerous wild goose chases,....definitely worth a look for sparking in that area.
hope this helps,.terry
should add that 4 new plug caps fixed the problem and bike now runs superbly
