Thanks for that adespin. I think that I've covered all the electric side, i.e. new coil/leads, condenser, points, plugs. But must make sure that I have them set up right. Also it's possible that there's a faulty unit, I have heard of that even from a brand new item.
I should have said this at the start of the thread - dummy me!!!
Thanks again for your comments.

Hi, I have a love of Triumph twins, done many miles on 60's Bonneville and Thunderbird. Currently have a 2006 T120 but hardly ride it because I don't do the miles anymore and with a shed full of other bikes, etc. It's low miles and in great nick and will be coming up for sale soon.
Cheers

Oooooh!!! Now I really do feel sorry for myself. Must be holding my mouth wrong or something! I'll have to get a grip of this one.

Many thanks guys. I think that I have given all the points that you mention a good dose of looking at and setting up to what I think is correct. However, I will get the manual out and go over them all again. I was never sure how much or little choke to give, so will apply full choke next time out.
I am sorely impressed with your hand starting Moorey, I'm obviously missing something somewhere.
I'll keep you posted on how I go on, but it will be a few weeks as the bike is currently overwintering at my sisters garage.
Thanks again and kind regards.
Dave
