Fuel tap is in the middle, but the sides are smooth not inset for the knees. I’m wondering what this tank is now!

SteveW means your fuel tap is on the right side of the tank and should be on the left if it were the correct tank for a 500/4

Welcome to the Forum. Not an original Honda 500/4 colour, they only came in Gold, black and brown in the UK and the head lamp shell was always black, never painted in the tank / side panel colours. Not sure what the tank is from but it's not a CB500/4 K1 tank. Sounds like you have a sensible plan of action for it though. Enjoy.

No additives in any of our SOHC/4's, including all the 750's. What sort of additive do you mean🤔 As long as the oil you use it to the correct specification, that's enough.

It's really difficult to hear engine noises properly on a mobile phone video but it doesn't sound like it's firing on all 4 cylinders and it sound like either the cam chain is rattling, or the primary chain or both. But like I say, videos can be really deceiving.

Thanks everyone for the help. What a great forum! I'm at the end of a restoration that's taken 10 years with most parts bought brand new from CMSNL and David Silver Spares. I'm at the point of putting the engine in the frame so will be asking advice on how best to do that soon. How do you get something that heavy in the frame without damaging it? ! Thanks again. Phil
That's an easy one, lay engine on its side and lift the frame on.

I remember them on the K3 which was 77 and the DOHC but cant remember the F2 as in all honesty i never PDI'd a k6/7 or F2 just worked on already sold ones
OK. But the K3 750 was a USA model so that would have the standard USA VIN plate.
When I mentioned it to Trig, he said you 'know damned well UK 750's up to and including K6 don't have plates', which I do 😂😂😂 I think my brain needs a defrag to clear out a load of shite  like the computer does 😭😭😭😭

I think they started in 77 Julie
Ah, OK Bryan. All our 750's are up to 76 so that's why none were fitted to ours then.

I had a bloody senior moment there 🙄🙄🙄
No UK 750/4's or 500/4's have VIN plates, they just have the stamping in the headstock. So no, I won't be sending you a photo as there is nothing to photograph. I have just looked at all our 750/4's up to K6, all UK models and not one VIN plate in sight because they never came with them.

The UK plate is different from the USA one. When I get a moment, I will take a photo of our UK K6 VIN plate and PM it over to you.
