Where's My Old Bike? / CB500-4 NJA 44M

Not an old one of mine but someone I knew.

Bike is still on DVLA register but not taxed or SORNed.

Says it is white now when it used to be Gold. Might still be in the Manchester area.

Date of liability is 2003 so that that long ago in the scheme of things.

Could put this is the for sale section but TBH I've only just managed to find these from an obscure source and TBH even though they say they have them I won't find out for certain until tomorrow.

Just a few parts I chose as being a bit hard to obtain or much cheaper than DS or CMS are selling them.

CB550F rear brake arms, NOS but until I hold one in my hand I can't say exactly what condition the chrome is in, might have 3 of those but depends on whether they are still sat in whatever box they were buried in. Price will be around £55 inc P&P I think. CMS still have 4 left at around £100 each plus P&P, hence why I selected them. Part number is 46500-390-000

CB750, CB500, CB550 to name a few. The small black washers which sit in the gap on the top yoke clamp bolts, they were fitted to stop you over tightening the pinch bolt and breaking the top yoke, still available at around £6 plus P&P from DS and CMS. Managed to maybe find 10 of them at £3 each. Part number is 53235-300-000 (all sold)

CB750K0, CB450, CB500 rear indicator brackets. NOS. Got 8 of these available, confirmed. DS and CMS charging an arm and a leg at around £25 each plus P&P. £15 each my price. Postage cheaper if you buy a pair but around £3 P&P I reckon. (6 left)

Big end shell bearing for CB500/550. Green colour, getting very hard to find in green hence why I snapped them up. Might have 12, not confirmed. DS charging around £11 each plus P&P. £8 each inc P&P Part number 13217-323-003 (all sold)

Just went for this just for fun as I've never seen one before, CB550F L/H side panel in Flake Sunrise Orange, NOS so should still be wrapped in OE bag, not expected much demand for this TBH as I think it was mainly a US colour but you never know and I bought it mainly for a laugh. No price for this as I don't even know if they still have it, if they do and your interested let me know. Part number 83700-390-000ZB


Other Bikes / Anyone got a CB500T? need help identifying a loom

I broke one CB500T many, many moons ago. Guy brought it in for MOT and it failed big time, he was so disgusted with the bike he offered it to me for a pittance rather than ride it away again. As the bike shared quite a few parts from the CB500K I thought why not and promptly rode it home and scrapped it.
No idea what I did with most of the parts to be honest, but haven't got anything left so maybe I took what I wanted and sold the rest as a job lot.
Today whilst trawling through the shed where parts have been sitting for around 35 years now I spotted a wiring loom. Thinking it must be from a 500 or 550 of which I broke more than a few I pulled it out of the mess of stuff it's been sat in and inspected it.

I looks a little like a 550 harness except it's clearly not. As the only thing I can think of that it may be is the 500T I thought I'd ask on here and see if anyone can identify it, I'll post some pics of it later but not much point if no one is very familiar with the 500T electrics. Harness is uncut, still supple including the harness shroud/tubing, not much corrosion considering where it's been sat for 30 odd years and looks to be very useable. There are little pointers leading me to think it's a 500T, the loom appears to connect the handlebar switches under the tank rather than the headlight like the 550F, but the connectors around the sub harness aren't the same as the 550F, to me it looks like the sub harness lived on the right rather than the left like the 550F.

Anyone help?

Just spotted this on german E-Bay. First thing I spotted were the 6 original exhausts for the K3, these things are rarer than hens teeth so I thought I'd post a link to where they were. The may have been sold since but no harm in asking the seller, he also had some other 550 bits and pieces from other bikes so maybe there are more available.

The pic shows what looks like 4 O/S exhausts, 2 of each, upper and lower and one pair of L/H exhausts, they look genuine Honda to me but it has been a while since I've seen some so I may be mistaken.

Don't know who he is but he can certainly polish to a very high standard. Can't read the auctions so have no idea of that's the price to polish something or your buying the finished part, suspect the latter.

I've watched this a few times now and can't believe the cops can get away with this. You think we have it bad. Not a big fan of you tube videos if I'm honest, however if you ride a bike, you want to watch this clip, I guarantee after a few mins you won't be able to stop watching until the end, it's like a bad movie, except it's totally real

Just spotted these. I was after getting the rear one made myself by someone but his ill health put a stop to that project.

Anyway seems like someone has done a very good job of producing a much needed tool.

And if you need the front one or like to complete the set  :)

Picture seems to have stopped working on the auction but it looked a very nice tool of the same quality as the rear tool.

If anyone needs a NOS rear wheel bearing retainer for the 500/550 (as shown in the auction pic) I have just the one left now. PM me if interested

Just in the process of listing a set of Marzocchi AG Strada shocks I found in my loft. I seem to recall I bought them off a fella who'd just had them reconditioned (the person who did the recon put me onto him) he had a CB750 IIRC. I've just measured the eye to eye length and it's approx 326mm, top fitting is a eyed one, bottom is the usual claw fitting typical of Hondas in the 70s.

Can anyone let me know what they should fit? I can't remember offhand what the eye to eye length is for the 500 I bought them for, my bike is right at the back of my garage and under a stack of stuff so it's not readily accessible.

Found a couple of sets of the above shocks in the loft. One set is partially dismantled, remember doing that quite a few years ago, the other set looks to be complete but didn't examine them due to space constraints in the loft, already have lumps all over my head from hitting the rafters, anyway I do remember that the dismantled set needs some parts, anyone have any idea where I can get them. Might reassemble them and sell them on if I can refurbish the dismantled set.

Giving some serious thought to selling all the spares I've amassed over the years, more NOS parts that I care to admit if I'm honest. These will include NOS sidepanels (black & Jade Green)) NOS K1 seat, NOS full set of exhausts plus a virtually complete gearbox all NOS. Those are just some I can remember, there should be some extremely rare or hard to source parts including a NOS rear bearing retainer.

I may also be selling a set of Lester wheels to fit the 500/550 plus a stack of other stuff.

Intend to put everything on E-Bay in order to maximise the potential for sale, I will however put links up to the auctions if or when I decide I can bear to part with them. Was intending to pass all these down to my son but TBH he wouldn't know what to do with them so might as well get a good holiday out of them for me and the missus.

Not going to do the DIBs thing, fairer if I just let them go to the highest bidder.

Misc / Open / Negative response from Honda to dating certificate

I enquired to Honda in early August this year for a dating certificate for my L reg CB500-4. The bike was a UK model and was first registered in early May 1973 which led me to believe it would be a pre 1973 manufacture and so tax exempt. Consulted with Bryan and studied his list and my engine/frame number would be consistent with a May 1972 build date.
After some weeks I had had no response from Honda so I rang them to enquire what the hold up was, was told they had never got the letter so I sent another in mid September by registered mail, again this letter seemed to fall into a black hole, my phone number and e-mail address were on the letter but no contact at all from Honda.

After 4 weeks I rang them again, they said they had recieved the letter this time and had sent to Japan for them to consult the archives. Waited and waited and still no repsonse, so last week I rang Honda again, was told an e-mail would be sent to the relevant dept and they would contact me. Again nothing, until this morning when a letter arrived from Honda. Thinking it was finally my dating certificate I opened it with great anticipation, only the letter just said we can't help you and here's your cheque back.

Had anyone ever got this response from Honda? I've rang to complain today to ask them why a first rate company like Honda can't find a record of my bike, why considering the fact the bike was clearly a pre 73 build they couldn't at least supply a certificate stating this. I'm awaiting their response.

CB500/550 / Need to borrow a rear wheel bearing retainer

Anyone have one lying around, I've got one somewhere but it may be stuck in the hub. I need to borrow one for a short while, whilst the special tool to remove it is custom made, thought maybe pics would be suffucient but it appears not.

So if you have one you wouldn't might lending for a while I'd be obliged. These rings are no longer obtainable so removing them intact is even more important these days, to do that you need to have the special tool, even the special tool isn't available to buy now. So we need to have one specially made, hence why this request is so important.

So help out the community and lend me one. I'll then post where these tools are available. The front one is already done, made out of stainless steel and costs £12.99 plus P&P. I'd suspect the rear may cost a little more, probably less than £25 but we need it made first. So have a look and see if you can help out.

CB500/550 / Special wheel bearing retainer tools, info needed

Found a source who will make some of the special tools for removing the front and rear wheel bearing retainers.
He's made the 750 rear tool but is unsure if it's the same as the 500/550. Doesn't recall making a front one though.
Can anyone who has these retainer rings lying around or even better the genuine Honda tools please let me know the dimensions, I'd need outside and inside diameter of the 4 castles on the front, on the rear same info but also the diameter of the pins.

Anyone interested in the tools if I can get him to make them, they'll be made of stainless steel and should be better than genuine Honda. As these retainers are getting a little hard to source these days it makes sense to reuse them whenever possible and to do that you need to remove them without damaging them.
