'82/'83 Honda AF01/NH 50 MD brake cables...
« on: October 31, 2021, 02:44:23 PM »
I'm getting swamped since folks realize I've a shed that I wrench in...  ???

Anyway, the old scoot has drums front and rear, having a hard time finding new brake cables...

Any source where I can select some by length, diameter of threaded rod and nipple type?

I remember kits one solder the required nipple onto the cable... (I must be getting old now...  ::))

I looked up bowden cable on ebay and you can make the barrel nipples out of brass rod, or solder the screw typeon, just remember tohave a bigger hole on the opposite side to cable and "birdsnest" the inner to fill the hole before filling withsolder to stop it pulling through.
Un soldered brake cable ends were an mot failure when i did my course

That's the procedure I remember... wasn't there also a shaped lump of lead you first crimp onto the cable end?
I might seek some new ones (for the sleeving and the threaded rod at the wheel side), cut them to the required length and solder new ends...

Wouldn't even want them on my throttle or choke cable...

My late father was Chief Engineer for Bowden Cables many years ago. Unfortunately, I don't have any of his skills or knowledge, but I do know you can build your own Bowden cables with parts from these guys
