Painting engine case - to prime or not to prime?
« on: March 20, 2022, 05:09:05 PM »
Hey all

I am getting conflicting reports on engine paint, and wether or not to prime before painting or not. I have always been taught to prime first for the best result. Saw several threads on here that talks about a self-etch primer before the paint.

Can somebody shed some light on this for me?

I use Duplicolor engine primer now. The Duplicolor engine paint comes out better with it.

Is that for the Black or the Grey as Well? What color and primer have you used if I may ask?

The aluminium colour is the Duplicolor engine primer and paint. The black is Seymour MRO primer and paint in rattle cans. It's supposed to be gas and chemical resistant. If I spill gas on it I have to rewax it but no damage.

Ah, I meant the actual brand VHT: https://www.vhtpaint.com

I've heard it's the same as Duplicolor, but can't confirm it. Would love to go Simoniz, but haven't found a EU dealership where I don't have to pay more for shipping than the actual paint, so just checking out if others had any good ideas :)

Nice, you use the heat resistant one? They call it just grey, right? You wouldn't happen to have a pictures of your engine painted in it, would you?

Can you tell me exactly which one you used? MoTip is readily available for me, but it comes in both grey, aluminum and silver and I’m not sure which one to use. Yours look nice!
