New to SOHC

Hi. Just bought a CB400 40 years after my first. Looks good from a distance but needs lots of work. Might be my memory but there are a couple of odd things about the bike. It's an F2 but is blue, may have been changed, can't remember whether the F2 was available in red or blue. UK engine and frame but the front indicators are mounted high (European bracket?). Anyway just started would be interested in following others who are restoring the 400.

To be honest, 40 year old bikes often have odd bits from other bikes on them, tanks and side panels in particular. Sometimes people do it just because they like the colour, or it may be an imported bike from another market, the V5 should say if it was previously used abroad. Anyway, welcome, and show us some pictures!

Hi and welcome to the Forum. All f2's should have stripes on the tanks and are usually in Candy Antares Red or Parakeet yellow. But, this being a Honda, you never know if it was an early f2 in an f1 colour, or like you say it has probably had a colour change. Where are the indicators mounted ?. Post a picture and we will help you work out what it is

Hello from me too.
I bought a 400/4 nearly 40 years after I didn't own one (never got to afford it) but not to rebuild.
As Julie says F2 models came in yellow (like mine) or red (like hers).
The table below is useful if you want to confirm it is actually an F2. It is normally found in the front of the Parts List although it is not in the version to be found in Ashimoto's Dropbox (http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,8884.0.html), which is still well worth having.
Pretty sure the indicators have been moved at some point, mounts should be on the lower part of the headlight bracket.

Thanks All. Yes registered in UK in 1978. Engine and frame numbers match UK bike.  V5 states F2. Couple of pics attached.

Hi and welcome,  fellow 400four owner.   Its an F2 frame with F1 Varnish Blue tank and sidepanels..  The F1 had it's pillion footrests attached to the swinging arm.  Yours haven't.   Great pics by the way, that's what we like on here.

May be  an F2 as they did not come in Varnish Blue. . I had a Blue  F1 though with the frame loops for the pillion pegs and was a '76 ' R' reg. Does the speedo have a green scale with Km/H as well as MPH ... a  sure sign of an F2
