Tracing my reg number

Any body able to help in finding out a reg number from only the frame /engine number?
I bought a CB400F in 75 i think, then i exported it to South Africa around 1978. i would like to bring it back to the UK and get it registered again.

If it was on a computerised log book DVLA will have it but won't tell you till you re register it and you will have to go through all the normal hoops for registration. If you new the original selling dealer and by some miracle they kept their old records you may get it that way

Thanks for the info. can't remember the dealer but i know the area so could maybe find it.

Maybe just bring it over and hope for the best.
