Engine Rebuild

Hi All
         Im thinking of getting an engine rebuild on my 400/4 due to lots of rattle poss cam or primary, been unable to adjust and its got 38k on it rest of bike is restored ( apart from tank i like the patina) does anyone know of a good / reliable engine re builder in the North Yorkshire area.

I will have a read Julie but im not that confident about doing it  and am very impatient

No one is as impatient as me Dave and I was a complete novice. I had help / advice on tap though from him indoors, Trigger, so I had an unfair advantage I suppose

I have the garage space and have done a top end rebuild on a old 2 stroke suzuki but this seems a bit daunting

Honestly Dave, I thought the same before I started doing mine. It really is not as scary as it appears. My engine work was really intensive due to all the machine work needed to repair the internal damage. I would have no concerns doing a CB400/4 again, especially if it was just chains / rings etc.
Edit....you could actually follow the rebuild part of my engine thread and do it that way.

Go for it Dave - you have a great resource in Julie's rebuild thread and you would have all of the help you could need from this forum if you get stuck.  The 400 engine is a nice engine to work on, requires only a few specialist tools, and it's a great feeling when the engine that you have rebuilt fires up again !

There will likely be tasks that you won't be able to do, but again, advice on here on who to turn to for machining etc.

Plenty of help and specialists on here.
Good thing about the 400/4 is it's a nice engine to work on and the bottom end can be done and put back in the frame and then build the rest onto it.

Nothing to fear Dave. If you get stuck or not sure of anything ask on here and you'll get an answer.
One tip from me, I would remove the clutch cover and undo the centre nut whilst the engine is still in the frame and the final drive chain and rear wheel is still fitted. The centre nut can be a pig to remove with the engine out and you have no way of locking the gearbox.
